Regional League F4 begins: Two days of first-class water polo in Belgrade

April 1, 2022

The time for the highlight of the best-ever Regional season has come.

The Final Four will be held in Belgrade on Saturday and Sunday. Two Serbian and two Croatian clubs will battle for the trophy.

As the 1st-ranked team in the regular season, Novi Beograd is the host of the tournament. Novi Beograd will face Radnički Kragujevac in the first semifinal on Saturday (6 pm). After that game, the two best Croatian teams at the moment take the stage. Jug Dubrovnik and Jadran Split will play in the second semifinal game (20.15).
Host Novi Beograd is the biggest favorite for winning the trophy. Still, the remaining three clubs arrived in Belgrade with high ambitions and real chances to climb the podium.

The results of the duels between the four participants of the Final Four in all competitions this season – Regional League, national leagues and cups, and the Champions League – say that anything is possible. There are no invincibles.

Novi Beograd, one of the favorites for the title in the Champions League, is aiming for the first trophy in the club’s history.

Radnički had a very successful last year. In 2021, the Kragujevac-based team won the Serbian Championship, the national cup, and the title of the winner of the Regional League. Radnički won’t deliver the trophy to one of the three rivals without a big battle.

Jug is the most successful club in the history of the Regional League, with four trophies, but it has been waiting for a new Regional League title since 2018.

In the past few seasons, Jadran was in the shadow of Jug, Mladost, and, for a while, Primorje in Croatia, but the Split club changed the course last summer. Jadran renovated the team and signed a few excellent reinforcements. A few months ago, the team from Split won the first trophy after almost three decades – the Croatian Cup.

In the next two days, spectators in the stands and TV audiences will have an opportunity to watch many top-level water polo aces. A lot of winners of the Olympic medals, World, European champions, and players who lifted the Champions League trophy will jump in the water tomorrow.

No doubt, fans will enjoy high-class water polo on Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday after 9.30 pm, we will see who will celebrate.
