Roma, Plebiscito, and Ekipe maintain perfect starts to season

November 13, 2022

The third full matchday of the Italian League was played this weekend, with SIS Roma and Plebiscito Padova being the only two teams to have won their opening three games this campaign.

The Romans dominated the Como, while the Florentines didn’t put up too much of a resistance against Plebiscito Padova. Ekipe, who have only played two games thus far this season, defeated Brizz with relative ease.

There was a first win of the season for Bogliasco, as they triumphed 11-9 over Bologna. Trieste impressed against Rapallo to jump up to sixth in the league.

The two promoted teams, Bologna and Brizz, still await their first points of the season.

Plebiscito Padova and SIS Roma will both be in Champions League preliminary round action next weekend; Plebiscito are in Group C alongside UA Lille, Sirens ASC Malta, FTC-Telekom Budapest and CE Mediterrani, while Roma will clash with Dunaujvaros, Spandau 04 Berlin, Ethnikos Piraeus and Mulhouse WP. Ekipe are already guaranteed a berth in the next round.

RN Bologna 9 – 11 Bogliasco 1951 (2-1, 1-3, 3-2, 3-5)

Bologna: O. Sesena, A. Repetto 3, V. Perna 1, F. Lekness 2, A. Mazzia, A. Musso, C. Morselli, M. Lepore 1, M. Marchetti, F. De Vincentiis 2, E. Altamura, F. Toth, M. Allotta

Bogliasco: V. Uccella, A. Riccio 1, P. Di Maria 1, G. Cuzzupe 2, A. Maucheri, G. Millo 2, B. Rosta 1, B. Rogondino 2, M. Paganello 1, G. Cavallini, M. Carpaneto 1, D. Stampinato, A. Sokhna

Bogliasco secured their second league victory of the season against Bologna thanks to a strong fourth quarter performance.

The score was tied 6-6 entering the final period, but three unanswered goals scored within two minutes by Rosa Rogondino (penalty), Giulia Millo, and Giulia Gazzupe (6 on 5) shifted the odds in favour of Maria Sinatra’s team.

Next weekend, Bogliasco will host Roma, while Bologna, who have yet to record a point, will travel to Tuscany to take on Florentia.

Pallanuoto Trieste 13 – 6 Rapallo Pallanuoto (3-2, 2-1, 4-2, 4-1)

Trieste: F. Sparano, D. Vomastkova, E. De March, B. Bozzetta, G. Marussi, L. Cergol 1, G. Klatowski 3, F. Colletta 1, G. Zizza, J. Vukovic 5, I. Riccioli 2, R. Santapaola 1, S. Ingannamorte

Rapallo: S. Caso, N. Zanetta, U. Gitto 2, V.Giavna, D. Carrasco Leyva 1, L. Vanelo 1, G. Gnetti, B. Cabona 1, S. Costa, I. Rossi, R. Bianconi 1, G. Apilongo

Trieste have their first win of the season after defeating Rapallo 13-6. Jelena Vukovic, a Serbian international, was in scintillating form, scoring five decisive goals, while Giorga Klatowski, an Italian international at the age of nineteen, capped off an outstanding game with a hat-trick.

Given their solid start to the season, Rapallo’s performance is disappointing. The upcoming match for Luca Antonucci’s squad will be a difficult one against Ekipe.

Trieste has two games in the next six days; similar to Rapallo, they face an impossible task at home against Ekipe before travelling west to face Como the following weekend.

Brizz Nuoto 2 – 21 Ekipe Orizzonte (0-5, 0-8, 1-5, 1-3)

Brizz: H. Santapaola, F. Sapienza 1, A. Milicevic 1, G. Pastanella, A. Arcidiacono, M. Spampinato, N. Sasover, I. Pane, A. Mascari, V. Santoro, M. Giuffrida, G. Trovato, F. Paladino

Ekipe: L. Celona, B. Halligan 1, C. Grasso 2, T. Lombardo 1, V. Gant 1, D. Bettini 3, V. Palmieri 2, C. Marletta 2, G. Gagliardi, A. Williams 3, G. Oliva 1, M. Leone 5, G. Condorelli

The first Catania derby between Brizz and Ekipe was devoid of drama, with Ekipe dominating the league’s newcomers.

A clean sheet in the first half, coupled with thirteen scores for Martina Miceli’s reigning champions, put the game out of reach as a contest. The goals were shared amongst the team; Morena Leone netted five times, while there was a three-goal game for Dafne Bettini and Alice Williams.

Ekipe currently sits in fourth place with two wins from their first two games. Brizz are still looking for their first win; they were never going to get it in this game, and the schedule doesn’t get any easier; they face Plebiscito next, followed by SIS Roma in a few weeks.

Plebiscito Padova 14 – 3 RN Florentia (3-0, 5-0, 2-2, 4-1)

Padova: L. Teani, L. Barzon 3, V. Valyi 1, G. Citino 2, E. Queirolo 2, A. Casson, A. Millo 1, S. Dario 2, H. McKelvey, C. Meggiato 1, S. Centanni 1, B. Cassara 1, C. Giacon

Florentia: C. Banchelli 1, C. Barbieri, L. Leporte, S. Cordovani 1, G. Gasparri, N. Vittori, L. Nesti 1, B. Mugnai, M. Pantani, M. Merli, A. Gattini, E. Capaccioli, G. Pellegrino

Plebiscito extended their winning streak to three games with a 14-3 victory over Florentia. Padova’s top goal scorer last season, Laura Barzon, led the scoring with three goals.

Like Ekipe, Plebiscito didn’t concede a goal inside the first two quarters of the game (8-0). From there, the only exciting bit of the match was when Italian first-choice keeper, Caterina Banchelli, scored for the visitors.

Both teams will be expected to pick up points in their next game. Plebiscito visits Brizz. Florentia hosts Bologna on Saturday evening.

SIS Roma 20 – 4 Como Nuoto (1-1, 7-2, 5-0, 7-1)

Roma: E. Eichelberger, M. Misiti, G. Galardi 2, S. Carosi, L. Papi, C. Ranalli 3, D. Picozzi 3, C. Tabani 6, C. Nardini 1, L. Di Claudio 1, A. Cocchiere 2, A. Andrews 2, G. Galbani

Como: G. Frassinelli, M. Romano 1, M. Fisco, J. Tedesco, E. Borg, A. Giraldo 2, R. Bianchi, A. Iannarelli, B. Romano, G. Lanzoni 1, A. Cassano, A. Radaelli, A. Volpato

The league-leading SIS Roma easily defeated Como, aided by six goals from Chiara Tabani and hat-tricks from Domitilla Picozzi and Giulia Ranalli.

Tabani, one of the leading players in the Setterosa, currently has the most goals (12) in the league.

Roma’s joint training session with Vouliagmeni earlier this week in Greece seemed to pay off in this game. They looked impressive. Marco Capanna’s team is unbeaten in the league heading into their Champions League preliminary group next weekend.
