Sabadell and Barcelona record narrow wins, leader has no mercy

Two derbies closed the first half of the Spanish League. The most interesting encounters of the 11th round were matches Mediterrani – Sabadell and Barcelona – Mataro. Barcelona and Sabadell celebrated narrow wins.

The 12th round will be played in February.

Spanish League 2019/20, Round 11

Mediterrani – Sabadell 8:9 (1:1, 2:3, 2:3, 3:2)

The clash of Mediterrani and Sabadell was a pretty even contest, but Sabadell was leading for most of the time. In the middle of the second quarter, it stood 3:3. After that, Sabadell made a 4:1 series for a 7:4 lead(22nd minute). Mediterrani managed to reduce the gap to 1, in its first possession in the last quarter (6:7), but the visitors managed to keep the slim lead until the end. Sabadell entered the last minute leading 9:7, while Mediterrani’s 8th goal came too late – 13 seconds from the end.

Barcelona stunned Mataro with an opening 7:1 lead. But, the visitors refused to lie down and die. They started climbing back step-by-step. Four minutes before the end, Mataro trailed just by a goal (10:11). Estrany doubled Barceloneta’s advantage to 12:10 with two minutes to go. Yanez converted a penalty for Mataro’s consolation goal 11 seconds before the final buzzer.

Leader Barceloneta, playing without a few main stars (Perrone, Aleksic, Bodegas, Mallarach, goalkeeper Lopez…), demolished last-placed Tenerife – 19:5.

Terrassa had an easy task against Navarra – 23:7.
