The list of the semifinalists of the Spanish League was completed a day before the end of the regular season.

Sabadell, Barceloneta, Barcelona and Terrassa will play in the semifinals.

Sabadell secured 1st, Barceloneta 2nd, and Barcelona 3rd place before the 21st round, played this weekend.

Terrassa was 4th, but Mataro could climb from 5th to 4th place.

Mataro had a challenging match this weekend, welcoming an unbeaten Sabadell, and had to win to keep its hopes alive. Mataro played very well in a low-scoring game. However, Sabadell recorded a 6:5 win, scoring a winning goal in the last minute and killed Mataro’s playoff hopes.

A few hours after that game, Terrassa defeated Mediterrani, but even if it had lost, Terrassa would have finished 4th because of Sabadell’s victory over Mataro.

The first half of the encounter between Mataro and Sabadell produced a “football result “. Averka gave Sabadell a 1:0 lead in the third minute. Mataro’s Cuacos leveled at 1:1 in the 12th. Those were the only two goals in the first half.

Sabadell regained a slim lead in the third quarter (2:1, 3:2), but Mataro netted two back-to-back goals.Hugo Castro made it 4:3 and put the hosts in front with 56 seconds remaining in the third quarter. The beginning of the fourth period belonged to the hosts. Cabanes leveled from a man-up in Sabadell’s first possession after the last break. Three minutes before the end, Averka scored for 5:4. But, Mataro responded and before the final minute the sides were tied at 5:5. The thriller wasn’t over yet. Bernat Sanahuja scored the sixth goal for Sabadell with 44 seconds left on the clock. Mataro wasn’t able to equalize and prolong the match in a shootout and said “goodbye” to the playoffs.

Since Mataro failed to win, Terrassa had no pressure in the later game against Mediterrani. It wasn’t a must-win match for the LEN Challenger Cup semifinalist. Terrassa led throughout the match. Early in the third quarter, it built a 7:3 lead. The hosts kept a four-goal advantage almost until the end. Deep into the final period, the hosts gained an 11:6 advantage. Mediterrani reduced the gap with two late goals.

There was no excitement in the remaining matches. Barcelona beat Tenerife by 10 goals (17:7). Team USA’s Marko Vavic was the best scorer with five goals. Barceloneta reached a double-digit margin in the game against Rubi (16:6) with five goals from Nico Paul.

Caballa, which will be relegated to the Second Division, couldn’t celebrate a consolation victory in its last match in the season. It lost to Sant Andreu 7:12.
