Spandau 04 comes back and keeps hopes alive

Spandau 04 extended the final series of the German League playoffs. Spandau defeated Waspo Hannover in the third match of the series – 12:9 and kept a chance to retain the title.

This was Spandau’s first victory in the series. Hannover water polo players have a 2:1 advantage and will have a new „match ball“ in their pool on Wednesday.

German League, final (best-of-five), 3rd match

Spandau 04 –Waspo 98 Hannover 12:9 (3:0, 2:3, 4:2, 3:4) – 1:2 in the series

Spandau 04: Kholod 6, Zovic 2, Jungling 1, Stamm 1, Gielen 1, Pjesivac 1.
Waspo 98: Nagaev 2, WInkelhorst 2, Da. Brguljan 1, M. Brguljan 1, Zech 1, Real 1, Preuss 1.

Spandau got off to a flying start in today’s match. The Berliners needed less than six minutes to build a 3:0 lead.

Midway through the second period, Hannover managed to cut the deficit (2:3). However, Spandau responded with two goals and went 5:2 up. The visitors scored their third goal 13 seconds before the halftime (3:5).

Russian Dmitri Kholod opened the third period with an action goal for 6:3. From that point on, the difference between the sides was always three goals or more. Led by Dmitri Kholod (who scored 6 goals today), Spandau dominated. The hosts even had a 5-goal lead (11:6 and 12:7), but they let Waspo score two consolation goals in the last two minutes.

Playoffs for 5th place (best-of-three)

The series of games for the 5th place was completed today. ASC Duisburg secured the 5th position and qualified for the LEN Euro Cup. Ludwigsburg is in the 6th position.

Ludwigsburg 08 – ASC Duisburg 12:11 (3:4, 4:1, 2:2, 3:4)

ASC Duisburg – Ludwigsburg 08 12:6 (3:2, 1:1, 2:2, 6:1)

ASC Duisburg – Ludwigsburg 19:12 (4:2, 6:0, 5:5, 4:5)

The playoffs for the 3rd place finished yesterday. OSC Potsdam took the 3rd place, while White Sharks Hannover finished 4th.
