Szolnok and Vasas earn narrow away wins

The top four teams of the Hungarian League – Szolnok, OSC, Ferencvaros, Vasas earned away wins in the 18th round of the national championships.

Szolnok and Vasas had to work hard to defeat their respective rivals, while the other two teams have collected the points with ease.

Vasas beat Szeged harder than expected. Szeged shut out Vasas’ best scorer Bence Batori who didn’t find the net today. Vasas entered the last period with a slim 6:5 lead. Szeged opened the fourth period with a goal for 6:6. But, Krisztian Bedo put Vasas in front shortly after – 7:6. Szatmari doubled the visitors’ advantage in the middle of the quarter, and Vasas managed to keep the 2:goal distance until the end.

The encounter between Miskolc and Szolnok was an even contest. Szolnok opened the match with a 3:1 lead. But, Miskolc responded with a 5:1 rush to turn the 2-goal deficit to a 6:4 lead. After that, Szolnok leveled the score three times (6:6, 7:7, 8:8), and regained a minimal advantage (9:8) late into the third period. In the fourth quarter, Miskolc was trying to catch up with the rival and it managed to do that two times (9:9 and 10:10). In the middle of the quarter, Filip Filipovic converted a man-up the final score – Szolnok won 11:10. FIlipovic, who scored five goals, was the man of the match.

Ferencvaros played without several key players, but a rejuvenated squad of the European champion trashed last-placed KSI.

OSC, led by Krisztian Manhercz, beat Kaposvar 15:6.

BVSC, encouraged by a good result in the previous round (8:8 against Szolnok), convincingly defeated Eger. The key to success was excellent defense. Eger scored only three goals, and BVSC recorded a 7:3 victory.

Szentes defeated Honved, after a great turn. Honved started well and had a 3:1 advantage before the second quarter. But, Szentes produced a 7:1 series and jumped to an 8:4 lead midway through the third period. The hosts maintained the difference until the final buzzer.
