Szolnok defeated Vasas (11:9) in the derby match of the Hungarian League round 27. The league leader started slowly, but it managed to come back and continued its unbeaten run.
Titleholder Ferencvaros defeated UVSE as expected. But, the most important information regarding this match is that Denes Varga, the 2019 Total Player, is back in the water. He was on Ferencvaros’ team for the first time after three months of absence.
An encounter between OSC and Honved was very exciting. The match ended with no winner – 10:10.

Vasas took a 2:0 lead in the derby game and was in front for two and a half quarters. Szolnok cut the deficit and it trailed by a goal (4:5) at halftime. Vasas re-built a 2-goal lead in the third quarter (6:4, 7:5). Szolnok scored four goals in four minutes and earned a 9:7 lead a minute before the last break. But, Randjelovic found the net in Vasas’ last possession in the third quarter for 8:9. Early in the fourth period, the hosts leveled the score (Bedo for 9:9). In the middle of the quarter, Drasovic gave Szolnok a 10:9 advantage. After that, there were no goals for a long time, there were a lot of missed chances. Filip Filipovic closed the match 32 seconds before the end with a goal for 11:9.
Ferencvaros beat UVSE. It was Denes Varga’s first official game after a three-month break. To remind, Varga got injured in June. He returned to the action in November and played several matches in the Hungarian League and the Champions League. On January 16, he played in the derby against Vasas. But, after that game, he was out of the team for three months. Finally, he recovered and helped his team to beat UVSE.Denes Varga didn’t spend many minutes in the water, but he netted one goal (for 7:1).
The match Ferencvaros – UVSE was “a family duel”. UVSE’s Vince Vigvari was the best scorer of the match with five goals. His brother Vendel Vigvari didn’t find the net this evening, but he left the pool happier than Vince, as Ferencvaros celebrated the win.
OSC opened the match against Honved quite well. It had a 5:1 lead at the first break. Honved kept the hosts goalless in the second quarter and halved the distance before the second half (3:5). Honved fought hard, but OSC controlled the game during the third period and had a 3-goal lead (8:5) before the final quarter. Still, Honved was able to come back and equalize 82 seconds from the end. Gregor found the net for 9:9. OSC’s Erdely responded immediately for 10:9, but Honved had the last laugh as Ekler Bendeguz scored an equalizer – 10:10 just 14 seconds before the final buzzer.
After a slow start, BVSC secured a convincing win over Miskolc. At halftime, the sides were tied (6:6). However, BVSC, led by Tamas Gyarfas, dominated in the second half and recorded a 21:12 victory.
Kaposvar avoided a surprise in Debrecen. The hosts, who are in the 14th place in the standings, had a four-goal advantage in the 20th minute (11:7). But, they couldn’t find the net in the last 12 minutes, while Kaposvar scored six goals for a 13:11 victory.
Szeged defeated Tatabanya, in the match with special emotions. That was Csaba Kiss’s last game in the pool in Szeged. A 43-year-old Kiss, who won the European title with Hungary in 1999, has played for Szeged senior team for more than a decade. He will retire after this season and become a coach. Because of that, the club and Kiss’s teammates organized a small farewell party today and gifted him a collage of photos from different periods of his rich career.
