After a corona stop and (preparation for) the Olympic Qualification Tournament, the Dutch league for men has also started again. It was only the third round of play. Four teams are still unbeaten.
Het Ravijn achieved the best victory. The Nijverdallers won 10-12 against the strong GZC Donk. At the end of the last period, Ivar Schilstra and Emiel Wouters made the decisive gap. Reigning national champion UZSC had the greatest difficulty with BZC. Halfway the team from Utrecht still faced a 4-6 deficit. But in a strong second half, UZSC took some distance. AZC had less trouble with Waterpolo Den Haag. The home team was allowed to smell a surprise in the first period, but in the second and third period AZC made the relationships clear. ZPC Amersfoort also had little trouble in his game. Against De Ham it became 11-18. Amersfoort missed international Jesse Koopman, who sustained an arm injury at the OQT. But that did not bother Gianluca Sattolo’s team. Polar Bears narrowly beat ZPB (8:9). A minute and a half before the buzzer, Sjors de Kater scored the winning goal. ZPB coach Arjen Silvis tried to force in the final phase, but to no avail. Apart from a yellow card, it did not bring him much further. PSV and SVH got their first point. In a mutual game it became 14-14. After three periods, there seemed to be no problem for SVH, but PSV came back in the last period thanks to goals from Niels van den Hout, Sammy Claes and Melle Evers.
Women
Among the women, only big victories. Reigning champion GZC Donk defeated ZVL 6:16. The team from Gouda is the only team that is still unbeaten. Behind them, Polar Bears, UZSC and ZV De Zaan all have nine points out of four games. They also all won with big numbers on Saturday. Polar Bears pushed PSV down with 13: 6 and UZSC had no mercy with De Ham (20:6). Nerida Drewes was once again a star on the Utrecht side. She scored eight times. But the biggest result was attributed to ZV De Zaan. Arjan Vos’ team pulverized SWOL 1894. It became no less than 27:2. Maxine Schaap exceeded Nerida Drewes’s goal production. She netted no less than ten times.
