Top four Hungarian sides clean up on the road, collect maximum points

February 1, 2023

The Hungarian OB I’s tenth matchday followed a common trend, with every away team coming out on top.

The league leaders, Dunaujvaros, took apart Gyor with a 14-4 victory, solidifying their spot at the top of the standings. Meanwhile, BVSC secured a much-needed win against Szeged (12-8).

With the other of the top-four competing in the Euro Cup – with fairly uninspiring results –  Eger, Ferencvaros and UVSE were absent from the Saturday fixtures, but all three found victories over the past week.

Last Thursday, Eger secured a 15-9 victory over Szentes, while Budapest’s top two teams, FTC and UVSE, celebrated wins against Keruleti and Tatabanya today.

Dunaujvaros and Ferencvaros both are level on points, and remain undefeated after their first nine games.

Today’s Results, Hungarian OB I

Tatabanya 7 – 16 UVSE (1-4, 1-5, 4-5, 1-2)

Tatabanya: D. Kovacz, H. Zantleitner, N. Zantleitner, P. Zink 1, B. Orban 1, E. Becsey, S. Felkai 3, E. Rajna 1, L. Soti 1, K. Zold, D. Kovacs, G. Szombathelyi

UVSE: A. Magyari, R. Irmes, N. Golopencza, Z. Koka 1, S. Keszthelyi 1, E. Varro 2, V. Baksa 2, K. Farago 4, P. Szegedi 3, P. Tiba, Z. Lendvay, K. Peresztegi-Nagy 3, K. Hajdu, S. Golopencza

UVSE made sure they slipped no further in the Hungarian OB I with a decent 16-7 away victory in Tatabanya.

Marking her return to the side with four goals was Kamilla Farago, who has missed some key games over the past two weeks with an eye injury, while Keszthelyi was also a name that returned to a UVSE scoresheet – no, not the one you’re thinking of, but 14 year old Sara Keszthelyi, who netted a debut score. Kinga Peresztegi-Nagy and Panni Szegedi both converted on three occasions.

There was no slip-up from Ujpest, who imposed themselves from the beginning. Two goals from Peresztegi-Nagy in the first eight minutes put UVSE on the front foot, before a first half hat-trick from right-sided attacker Kamilla Farago put the travelling side 8-2 up at half-time.

Tatabanya enjoyed their best spell of the game in their third quarter, but the result was beyond doubt. Goals either side of the third-quarter break from Panni Szegedi served only to bolster the team from Margaret Island’s goal-difference. In the fourth, UVSE’s rotation keeper, Szonja Golopencza, made an excellent penalty save in the last from Boglarka Orban.

Tatabanya stays eighth, a point ahead of the two sides at the bottom of the league, Szeged and Gyor.

III Keruleti TVE 5 – 11 FTC Telekom (1-2, 2-4, 2-2, 0-3)

Kerulet: B. Papai, G. Brezovszki, A. Keresztes, P. Kiss, V. Kis, H. Illes 2, K. Hnatyszyn 1, P. Kudella, N. Koltay, R. Hajdu, K. Gasparics, A. Gyongyossy, T. Torkos

FTC: B. Neszmely, B. Vosseberg 1, Z. Mate 1, G. Gurisatti 4, P. Pocze 1, T. Farkas 2, D. Leimeter, A. Illes 2, S. Kuna, P. Petik, D. Toth Csabai, D. Domsodi, E. Millot, L. Greso

Ferencvaros kept their unbeaten streak intact with their ninth win of the season, defeating the Third District by a score of 11-5.

Greta Gurisatti, the league’s joint top goalscorer, was the standout performer in the Budapest derby, scoring four times in a competent showing for Gyorgy Gerendas’ side.

The game began slowly, but FTC quickly established a 2-0 lead within the first four minutes. Four consecutive goals in the second period, three of which came from Gurisatti, put Fradi ahead 6-1 in the second quarter.

Despite their best efforts, the Third District was unable to close the gap in the latter half of the first period, trailing by three goals (6-3) at the half. Goals from Mate, Gurisatti, and Farkas in the last quarter secured the win for Fradi in a shutout.

Games played earlier (26th-28th January)

Szentes 9 – 15  ZF Eger (0-5, 4-4, 2-3, 3-3)

Szentes: M. Futsi, L. Horvath, A. Hevesi, K. Macsai, V. Dankina 3, J. Dobos, R. Bicskei, D. Samsonova 3, V. Bonca 1, R. Korom, R. Kover-Kis, F. Toth 2, Z. Horvath, N. Heri

Eger: A. Kiss, P. Jancso 3, I. Borsi 2, D. Molnar, Z. Katona, R. Parkanyi, D. Czigany 3, B. Kekesi 1, F. Bodi, C. Szellak 2, D. Szilagyi, E. Weston, M. Dulic

Prior to their Euro Cup trip to face Vouliagmeni, Eger enjoyed a solid 15-9 victory on their trip south to Szentes

Eger’s top three scorers so far this campaign all contributed to the scoresheet; Dorottya Szilagyi grabbed four, with Patricia Jancso and Dora Czigany notching three strikes apiece.

The defeat for the Saints ended their four-game winning streak, while Eger stays fourth, with seven wins from ten games.

Jozef Sike’s team dictated the occasion from the start, capping off a devastating first quarter by going five goals ahead. Szentes made their presence felt midway through the contest, but they never came within four scores.

Szentes will take comfort in holding their own for three quarters, and there were notable performances from Szentes’ Russian influence, with Viktoria Dankina and Diana Samsonova firing home a trio of scores. The damage, however, was done inside the first quarter for the hosts.

Szeged 8 – 12 BVSC-Zuglo (4-2, 2-4, 2-4, 0-2)

Szeged: B. Gyongyosi, K. Szabo, N. Lendvai 3, M. Pap, S. Tatrai 2. L. Raski 1, J. Szabo, K. Kenez, E. Bocskay, B. Padar, A. Torma, V. Vikor

BVSC: K. Kakas, F. Fekete 2, K. Meszaros Farkas 2, R. Toth, C. Dobos, B. Csucs, E. Batizi, T. Kolarova 2, l. Urvari 1, N. Kele, L. Bereczki, A. Games 3, Z. Polak 2, Z. Hajdu

BVSC put on a late comeback performance against Szeged, battling from behind to secure a stunning 12-8 victory at the Tiszavirag pool.

Despite facing an early deficit, with Szeged leading 4-2 in the opening minutes, BVSC never lost hope. At half-time, the visitors had fought back to level the score at 6-6, setting the stage for a nail-biting second half.

Szeged came out strong in the second half, but BVSC was relentless. The visitors from Zuglo continued to chip away at the lead, with a six-goal scoring streak led by Gemes, Fekete, Meszaros Farkas, and Polak. BVSC’s defense was impenetrable, holding Szeged scoreless in the final 14 minutes to secure the win.

GYVSE Gyor 4 – 14 Dunaujvaros (1-2, 0-1, 3-8, 0-3)

Gyor: A. Horvath, R. Radli, N. Hateier, Z. Galicz, J. Vazari 1, D. Torok 1, V. Nemeth, V. Huszti, D. Huszti, A. Kiss, M. Szedlak, I. Droth 1, Z. Finta 1, L. Torma

Dunaujvaros: L. Maczko, C. Jonkl 2, N. Sajben 1, L. Dobi Dorina 7, B. Horvath, G. Mahieu, N. Szabo, D. Kardos, A. Mucsy 1, L. Somogyvari 1, R. Pal, N. Sumegi 2, L. Kardos, L. Aarts

In Gyor, Dunaujvaros defeated their hosts by ten goals, led by the impressive contribution of Lili Dobi Dorina, who racked up a seven goal haul in her side’s victory.

The game played out in the Northwest of the country was a somewhat unusual encounter, at least for the first sixteen minutes of the game. The visitors took a 2-0 lead inside the first quarter (Sumegi and Jonkl), but Gyor cut the deficit on the first quarter buzzer. Ujvaros could only find one score in the second quarter (3-1).

Dobi Dorina then left her mark on the game, scoring five goals in the third to lurch the game in favour of the Orange and Blues (9-2). Successful throws from Jonkl, Sajben, Dorina, Somogyvari, and Sumegi settled things.
