The series of preparation tournaments for the European Championships in Split will continue in Belgrade tomorrow.

The “Serbia 2022” tournament will be played in the pool “25 May-Milan Gale Muskatirovic”, the venue of the World Men’s and Women’s U18 Championships.

Serbia, Italy, Croatia, and France will test their shape at the tournament, but one game will be something special. It will be a combination of a friendly match and a ceremonial game.

It will be an evening dedicated to the greats of Serbian and world water polo.

The match Serbia – Italy, scheduled for tomorrow, will be a farewell game for six aces, double Olympic champions- FIlip Filipovic, Dusko Pijetlovic, Gojko Pijetlovic, Andrija Prlainovic, Milan Aleksic, Stefan Mitrovic. The six retired from the national team after the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

We have already written about their magnificent careers. Filip Filipovic debuted for the national team almost 20 years ago. Filipovic,Dusko Pijetlovic, Prlainovic became regular members of the national team in 2006. The others debuted in a major competition with the gold medal at the 2009 World Championships in Rome.

All of them were the key players of, undoubtedly, the most successful national team in the world in the second decade of the 21st century. Between 2014 and 2016, the Serbs won a gold medal in each competition they played. The six crowned their magnificent careers in the national team by winning the second consecutive Olympic gold in Tokyo last year.

Serbian water polo lovers will have an opportunity to watch them together in the pool once more and say “Thanks” for all successes that made the nation happy.

The stands will be packed, all tickets were sold quickly.

Schedule of the tournament

August 21: France – Italy (19:00), Serbia – Croatia (21:00)
