PVSK Pecs and Kaposvar caused surprises in the 18th round of the Hungarian League.
Both clubs recorded away wins in Budapest. PVSK defeated Honved narrowly – 7:6. Kaposvar beat BVSC 13:11 and ended the rival’s winning streak, which lasted for more than a month and a half. BVSC recorded five victories in the previous five rounds.
The leading quartet made no mistake – Ferencvaros, OSC, Szolnok and Vasas recorded convincing victories.

BVSC welcomed Kaposvar encouraged by a win over Vasas in a derby match three days ago. BVSC started well and had a 2:1 lead. But, Kaposvar took control after that. The visitors produced a 4:0 run and turned around the 1-goal deficit to a 5:2 lead. BVSC did everything to come back, but it couldn’t equalize. Early in the third period, the host reduced the gap to one goal (6:7). However, Kaposvar responded with three straight goals for 10:6 (22nd minute). Midway through the fourth quarter, Kaposvar rebuilt a comfortable four-goal lead (13:9). BVSC halved the distance with two late goals.
This was Kaposvar’s second surprising victory in Budapest this season. It beat Vasas 9:8 in the 13th round.
The encounter between Honved and PVSK was a close contest. Honved took an early 2:0 lead. PVSK leveled at 2:2 early in the second period. In the rest of the game, the difference was never larger than a goal. Honved entered the final quarter leading 5:4. PVSK went ahead (6:5) in the 29th minute. Shortly after, Honved’s veteran Norbert Hosnyanszky equalized (6:6), but the visitors had the last laugh. PVSK’s Alex Csacsovskzky converted a man-up with 21 seconds remaining on the clock, for 7:6 and the visitors took all three points
Ferencvaros opened the match against Szeged quite well. Already in the second quarter, the “Fradi” had a four-goal lead (6:2 and 7:3). The 2019 European champions slowed after the middle break, but their win wasn’t in danger.
OSC demolished DVSE Debrecen. OSC controlled everything in the pool, but DVSE fought hard until the middle break. In the third period, OSC scored eight, conceding only one goal, and secured a convincing victory.
Szolnok killed all the suspense in Eger quickly. The reigning champion rushed to a 7:1 lead (11th minute), and there was no way back for Eger.
Vasas ran over Szentes. In the middle of the first quarter, the score was 2:2. But, Vasas’ defense was superb in the following 20 minutes. The hosts netted nine unanswered goals and went to 11:2.
UVSE defeated Miskolc and climbed to 11th place. Miskolc had a 6:4 lead in the second period. Then, UVSE produced a 4:0 run and earned an 8:6 advantage. Midway through the final quarter, the hosts led 9:7. Miskolc halved the distance (8:9) and had a counter-attack in dying seconds. Still, UVSE’s goalkeeper Bisztritsanyi saved a shot from Vismeg and the win for his team.
