The final of the Greek Championships will be a replay of the series of matches for the title in 2022.

Olympiacos and Vouliagmeni will battle for the title again. Vouliagmeni beat Apollon Smyrnis 15:9 in the third match of the semifinals and joined Olympiacos, which qualified for the final (best of five) earlier.

2022/23 Greek League, playoffs, semifinals (best of three)

Match 3

Vouliagmeni – Apollon Smyrnis 15:9 (1:2, 6:3, 3:2, 5:2) – the score in the series 2:1

Vouliagmeni: D.Woodhead 3, Kalogeropoulos 2, Troulos 2, Nikolaidis 2, Papasifakis 2, Kapotsis 2, Chalyvopoulos 1, Farmer 1.
Apollon Smyrnis: Bogdanovic 3, Solanakis 3, Alamanos 1, Goniotakis 1, Chondrokoukis 1

The first quarter belonged to Apollon, but Vouliagmeni ruled the field in the second period. The hosts earned a 7:3 lead. Apollon halved the deficit before the middle break (5:7).

I The final (best of five) begins already tomorrow. Olympiacos will be the host of the first, third, and eventual fifth match.

Still, Vouliagmeni continued dictating the pace. Early in the third, the hosts went to 8:5. In the 19th minute, Apollon’s Mokkas was excluded for brutality. Vouliagmeni converted the penalty awarded because of that foul. Still, it scored only one goal in the following four minutes, playing with an extra player, – 10:5. Apollon was still in the game. The visitors trailed 7:10 before the last quarter. In the 27th minute, Apollon had a chance to come even closer from a penalty shot but failed to score. Shortly after, Vouliagmeni regained a 4-goal advantage (11:7) and sealed the victory.

Olympiacs vs. Vouliagmeni in three competitions this season

Olympiacos and Vouliagmeni have met five times this season, and Olympiacos recorded four wins. It beat its biggest Greek rival twice in the Champions League, the results were the same – 14:6. The Red Whites were better in the semifinals of the Greek Cup in Patras (12:7).

Olympiacos defeated Vouliagmeni 15:8 in the regular season in the match in Piraeus.

Only one of the five matches was played in Vouliagmeni’s outdoor pool in Laimos (Vouliagmeni plays its Champions League home games in an indoor pool). The encounter in Laimos ended in a 10:10 draw.

Last year, Olympiacos won the title after three games in the final. Vouliagmeni didn’t record a victory in the series, but the matches were close contests – 8:6, 8:5 and 14:12 (after a penalty shootout, the score in the regular time was 10:10).
