San Diego and Bologna in women’s final at Masters Worlds in Gwangju

August 9, 2019

After the 5th day of the FINA World Masters Water Polo Championships in Gwangju, two teams have already secured the top places in their respective groups.

Politehnica Cluj-Napoca, after four wins over the Korean clubs, secured the 1st place in the men 30+ group. The Olympic Club (USA), is unattainable for the rivals in the group 35+/45+ in which also plays just three teams on a double round-robin basis.

The Group Stage is completed in the men’s group 60+ and in the women’s tournament. The top four teams from the veteran’s 60+ competition will play in the semifinals.

San Diego Shores (USA) and Rari Nantes Bologna 30+ (Italy) will face off in the women’s final. This will be the second encounter between these two sides in Gwangju. They shared the points in the duel in the group stage.

The tournament for men older than 55 years is almost over. Real Canoe (Spain) and Master Old Fellows (Brazil) will meet in the final.

Everything is open in the two biggest groups, with 7 teams in each category – men’s 45+ and men’s 65+/70+. The Croatian club Dubrovacki Veterani is on the top of the 45+ group, but YBL-Octopus (Hungary) and Spandau (Germany) have chances to jump into the 1st place. Santa Barbara Surfers (USA), KVP H2Opolo Piestany (Slovakia) and Dusseldorfer SC 1898 (Germany) are still unbeaten in the oldest category (65+/70+).
