Women’s Eredivisie: Donk take three points against De Zaan in early season duel

The second matchday of the Women’s Eredivisie has come and gone, and it was a successful weekend for GZC Donk who narrowly defeated last weekend’s Super Cup winners, De Zaan.

In the other two fixtures, 6-0 blowouts in the second and third quarters respectively for ZVL and Polar Bears ensured they secured expected points at home.

The league-leaders UZSC did not play this weekend.

GZC Donk 12 – 10 ZV De Zaan (4-2,5-3, 2-2, 1-3)

GZC: S. Keijzer, M. van der Weijden 4, B. Sleeking, A. Vermeulen, I. van Toorn 2, G. van Dijk, M. Keuning 2, d. Verhulst, S. Vos 1, I. Snoeij, S. Bergsma 2, V. ter Borg, D. Willemsz

De Zaan: E. Alander, L. Rogge 3, L. den Ouden 2, M. Schapp, T. Sam 1, E. Roijen, M. Koopman 4, D. Sap, L. Plugge, M. van Tol, B. Rogge, B. van den Dobbelsteen

In their first game of the season, GZC Donk secured an important victory over De Zaan in one of the season’s early box-office clashes.

There was not much to separate these two excellent teams, but a scoring spree by Donk just before half-time (Maartje Keuning 2, Marit van der Weijden and Isabella van Toorn) was decisive.

The eventual result was closer than it actually was because of a bit of a rally by De Zaan, with  goals from Maud Koopman and Lieke Rogge in the final minutes.

Polar Bears 16-9 Het Ravijn (4-2, 4-3, 6-0, 2-4)

Polar Bears: L. Backer, L. Moolhuijzen 6, J. Oort, A. de Keijer, N. van de Geijn 4, S. Willemsen 2, L. Schinkel 3, S. Slot, A. Roekevisch, F. Voordouw 1, F. Ingels, J. Dikmans, F. Broere

Ravijn: D. Logtens, N. de Vries, S. de Vries 1, N. Scholten, L. Beunk, M. Reinders, P. Gorter 1, D. Scholten 2, L. Boerdam 1, M. ter Schure 1, L. De Vries, A. Kleinlugtebeld

Six goals from the Dutch youngster, Lola Moolhuijzen, helped the Polar Bears overcome Het Ravijn.

The crucial period was the third quarter, when the Polar Bears pulled ahead with scores by Nina van de Geijn 2, Lola Moolhuijzen 2, Storm Willemsen, and Laura Schinkel, opening up a 14-5 lead.

ZVL-1886 Center 18 – 10 De Ham (4-3, 6-0, 4-3, 4-4)

ZVL: J. Oosting, D. Kammerman, L. Roels 2, R. de Kleer 5, L. Verhagen 2, N. Zwiers 2, D. Gras 2, A. Pauli 2, L. Terpstra 1, N. Van Veen 1, T. van der Meer, J. Joor

De Ham: A. Collas, R. Damianos 2, L. Rozeboom, R. Helmstrijd, A. Rozemeijer 4, R. Steur, R. Stam, R. van t Veer 1, M. Schipper 1, L. van Trotsenburg 2, A. van der Horst

Renee de Kleer scored five goals to help ZVL confidently triumph over De Ham. ZVL were better from the start of the match, and a 6-0 second quarter gave Sander Groenendijk’s team no chance of recovery.

After defeat to De Zaan last weekend, ZVL will be grateful for their first points of the season, while De Ham still awaits their first points of the season.
