Women’s OB I returns as Dunaujvaros, UVSE and FTC all win

October 23, 2021

The long wait is over as the Hungarian women’s league returned this evening with an action packed first matchday. There were solid wins for Dunaujvaros, UVSE, Fradi and Szentes, while BVSE and Eger went right down to the wire!

Results

Szentes 14-7 Keruleti TVE (2-0, 2-4, 4-2, 6-1)

Szentes: R. Aranyi, V. Varga 1, A. Hevesi 1, G. Macsai, V. Dankina 1, T. Kolarova 2, C. Toth 1, I. Mihaly 1, V. Bonca 3, M. Csiszar 1, R. Kover-Kis 2, F. Toth 1, R. Bolidzsar, M. Fusti

Keruleti:Β B. Papai, G. Brezovszki 5, B. Konda, L. Koncz, V. Kiss 1, H. Illes 1, C. Palasti, P. Kudella, K. Papp, K. Gasparics, N. Koltay, M. Dulic

Five goals from Gerda Brezovszki in the opening game of the season was not enough to drag her new side, Keruleti, to an away victory against Szentes. While the game was level at half-time, a second half onslaught from the hosts led by two goals each from Tamara Kolarova and Reka Kis-Kover secured a welcome three points for the team from the South.

Dunaujvaros 13-5 Tatabanya (3-2, 3-0, 4-1, 3-2)

Dunaujvaros:Β L. Maczko, D. Szilagyi 3, N. Sajben, G. Gurisatti 3, B. Horvath 1, M. Geraldine 2, N. Szabo, H. Erdelyi, A. Mucsy 1, L. Somogyvari, R. Pal, C. Szellak 2, N. Sumegi 1, S. Buis

Tatabanya:Β S. Zirighne, H. Zantleitner, N. Zantleitner 2, P. Zink 2, B. Orban, T. Zold, K. Hollosi, L. Soti, E. Rajna 1, E. Cser, M. Szedlak, B. Boszo, L. Marsi

Two hat-tricks from recently acclaimed Olympic Bronze medallists, Greta Gurisatti and Dorottya Szilagyi, helped Attila Mihok’s side begin their title challenge at home to Tatabanya. The Zantleitner sisters (Helga and Noemi) both scored two for the visitors.

UVSE 26-4 GYVSE Uni Gyor (7-0, 5-1, 8-1, 6-2)

UVSE: A. Magyari, R. Radli, D. Antal 4, L. Forgacs 2, G. Szucs 1, R. Keszthelyi 6, V. Baksa 2, N. Golopencza, K. Hadju 2, N. Rybanska 4, R. Irmes 2, K. Peresztegi-Nagy 2, P. Tiba 1, G. Szombathelyi

The reigning champions, UVSE, dominated from start to finish in their opening game, as they tore apart GYVSE. It was Marton Benczur’s senior players who led the scoring, with Rita Keszthelyi netting six while there were four apiece for Natasa Rybanska and Dora Antel.

Ferencvaros 17-3 Szeged (4-1, 5-2, 6-0, 2-0)

FTC: K. Cseho-Kovascsne, P. Petik, Z. Mate 2, M. Regos, P. Pocze 2, V. Kovesdi 2, M. Koopman 1, A. Illes 3, S. Kuna 3, E. Varro, D. Toth Csabai 2, D. Domsodi 1, S. Felkai 1, B. Neszmely

Fradi cruised to a opening day victory at home to Szeged. Despite scoring the first goal through Lila Raski, Szeged hardly tested the side from Budapest, as there were goals galore for Szonja Kuna (3), Anna Illes (3), Dora Toth (2), Vivien Kovesdi (2), Panna Pocze (2) and Zsuzsanna Mate (2).

BVSE 13-12 ZF Eger (5-3, 3-3, 3-2, 2-4)

BVSE:Β E. Pecz, F. Fekete, K. Mezaros Farkas 1, D. Alaksza, A. Krenusz 1, T. Farkas, K. Hnatyszyn 1, Leimeter 2, Z. Polak, N. Kele 2, N. Alaksza, A. Gemes 5, A. Gyongossy 1, K. Kakas

The closest result of the day was separated by merely one goal, five seconds from time by Nikolett Kele, who gave BVSE a significant first victory of the season against Eger. The game was close throughout, with neither side really pulling away from each other. BVSE were always ahead in the match, and looked to have made the breakthrough two minutes into the last quarter as they took a 12-9 lead through Alexa Gemes Anett (who scored five in the game). But full credit to Eger, who refused to roll over, and fought their way back into the game, but ultimately the side from Budapest took home the points.
