World League:Spain continues winning streak

The last match of the Women’s World League in 2019, was played in Terrassa today.Spain defeated Greece 16:12 in its third game of the European Preliminaries.

Women’s World League 2020, European Qualifications

Spain – Greece 16:12 (5:4, 6:5, 3:1, 2:2)

Spain: Tarrago 5. Ortiz 3, Gonzalez 2, Leiton 2, Espar 1, Pena 1, Garcia 1.
Greece: Avramidou 3, Ninou 2, Plevritou 2, Tskoukala 2, Eleftheriadou 1, Plevritou 1, Xenaki 1.

The Spaniards, the silver medalists at the 18th World Championships in Gwangju secured the win in the middle of the match. The Spaniards had a slim 5:4 advantage after the first period, while Greece equalized (5:5) early in the second quarter. Midway through this period, the hosts jumped to an 8:5 advantage, but the visiting side managed to come back. Fifteen seconds before the middle break, Greece trailed just by a goal (9:10). Then Rosser Tarrago, the best scorer, converted an extra player for 11:9. Deep into the third quarter, Spain built a safe 4-goal advantage (13:9), which proved decisive for their win.

Seven teams are competing in the European preliminaries, Spain remains the only unbeaten side. The runners-up for the World Championships have recorded three wins so far

The Women’s World League continues in February, while the last game of the men’s World League in 2019 is tomorrow’s encounter between Serbia and Croatia in Belgrade.

The top three European teams will qualify for the Super Final, which will be held in June (host to be determined). Four more teams from the Intercontinental cup (Indianapolis, USA, April 28th – May 3rd) plus the host will play at the Final Eight.
