Four group winners, which had a day off yesterday, defeated their respective rivals in the quarterfinals of the LEN Menβs European U17 Championships in Tbilisi and qualified for the semifinals.
Greece was better than Serbia today (5:3). Hungary ousted Montenegro (7:4), Spain trashed Russia (15:3) and Italy beat Germany 13:6.
In the semifinals for the classification 9th-12th place, Croatia recorded a convincing win over the Netherlands (14:7), while Georgia defeated Malta (7:4).
Semifinal matches will be played on Saturday. The games for the classification 9-16 are on the schedule for Friday.

The first quarterfinal game was the most interesting match of the day. Greece defeated Serbia in a very balanced encounter. The Greeks forced a penalty in their first possession and they converted it to a 1:0 lead. Then, started a tit-for-tat duel. Greece was leading 1:0, 2:1, 3:2, but the Serbs managed to level the score on each occasion. Serbia equalized for the last time in the 19th minute. But, they couldn’t score in the remaining time, while Greece netted two goals for a 5:3 win.
Russia – Spain 3:15 (0:4, 0:4, 1:6, 2:1)

Spain demolished Russia in the second quarterfinal. The Spaniards destroyed Russia’s defense by a series of action goals. At halftime, the Spaniards led 8:0. They added one goal early in the third for 9:0 before Russia found the net for the first time. Spain soon jumped to a 15:1 lead and slowed down in the last few minutes.
Montenegro – Hungary 4:7 (0:1, 2:3, 0:2, 2:1)

Montenegro kept up with the Hungarians for a while. The score was 1:1 in the 10th minute, before Hungary netted three unanswered goals to go 4:1 up in the 14th minute. That 3:0 series proved crucial in their win. Montenegro couldnβt come back. After the second quarter, the Montenegrins trailed 2:4. However, Hungary, playing excellently in defense, doubled an advantage in the third quarter for 6:2 and controlled the match until the end.
Germany β Italy 6:13 (0:4, 3:2, 1:5, 2:2)

The Germans missed a few man-ups in the first quarter and they paid for that, as Italy had a nice 4:0 advantage after the first quarter. Germany found the rhythm in the second period and reduced the gap (3:5). That was followed by five consecutive goals from the Italians. In the middle of the third quarter, the Italians had a huge 10:3 advantage, while. They entered the last period with an 11:4 lead and kept the gap until the end
