The Barcelona International Water Polo Academy (BIWPA) has entered into a groundbreaking collaboration with water polo legend and Total Player Award winner of 2018 Felipe Perrone, marking a historic milestone as the organization approaches its 10th anniversary. This alliance is set to reshape the landscape of water polo development, offering a unique opportunity for athletes and coaches in BIWPA programs to gain direct insights from one of the sport’s greatest ever players.
Felipe Perrone, a four-time Olympian, expressed his enthusiasm for this new venture. “I am enormously excited to have witnessed BIWPA’s journey over the last decade,” said Perrone. “My commitment in this collaboration is to share my knowledge and experiences to contribute to the development of all BIWPA athletes.”
As the current captain of the Spanish national team and CN Atlètic-Barceloneta, Perrone has been occasionally involved in many of BIWPA’s initiatives since the project’s inception. Now, his presence is set to become more constant, integrating into various services offered by BIWPA, including the Academy, the Summer Academy, team training trips, and tournaments.
Perrone’s integration into BIWPA’s technical staff has already begun, with him working closely with athletes on a weekly basis, providing personalized follow-up for each individual. Quim Colet, BIWPA’s Sports Director, emphasized, “Our goal has always been to achieve excellence, and we can’t think of anyone better than Perrone to continue advancing in this direction.”
In expressing his goals for the collaboration, Perrone stated, “My main goal is to ensure that BIWPA is accessible to all children who dream of becoming water polo players. I want them to have access to practical experiences and knowledge in the water.”
Cristina Marin, BIWPA’s General Manager, echoed Perrone’s excitement about the collaboration. “We are very excited to announce this union, which is historic for us just a few months before our 10th anniversary,” she said. “Felipe has helped us a lot since we started this adventure, which is why we are especially thrilled about this new era where we will have him more consistently.”
