The final round of the first phase of the Champions League is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, with two spots up for grabs in the quarterfinal stage. Even though six teams are already qualified, there will be several crucial games this week.
The matches in Groups A and D are in the focus.
2024 Champions League, Day 6
Group C (Tuesday)
Ferencvaros, the group leader, goes to Split to face Jadran, wishing to continue the team’s winning streak. But, the match has no importance for the standings. Ferencvaros secured 1st, and Jadran 2nd place.
However, the second game in this group, an encounter between the teams that will continue the season in the LEN Euro Cup, will decide something. Both teams have a motive. Crvena Zvezda welcomes Jadran Herceg Novi. Crvena Zvezda is currently in 3rd place, two points ahead of Jadran. The third-placed team will be in the first pot of the draw for the LEN Euro Cup eighth-finals, so the Serbs and the Montenegrins are targeting 3rd place.
Schedule: Jadran Split – Ferencvaros (19:00), Crvena Zvezda – Jadran Herceg Novi (20:00)
Standings: 1. Ferencvaros 15, 2. Jadran S 9, 3. Crvena Zvezda 4, 4. Jadran HN 2.
Group D (Tuesday)
Barceloneta sealed 1st place in the group with the win over Vouliagmeni, which can’t move from the bottom of the table.
However, both teams can affect the battle for 2nd place in the group.
Marseille is currently in 2nd place, with three points more than Spandau. The French need a point in the game against Barceloneta to stay where it is now if Spandau beats Vouliagmeni. But it’s certain that Barceloneta won’t surrender in Marseille and that Vouliagmeni is desirous to win the first points in the season. So, neither Marseille nor Span Vouliagmeni will have an easy task.
Schedule: Vouliagmeni – Spandau 04 (16:00 – 15:00 CET), Marseille – Barceloneta (20:00).
Standings: 1. Barceloneta 15, 2. Marseille 9, 3. Spandau 6, 4. Vouliagmeni 0
Group A (Wednesday)
Group A is the only one in which the race for 1st place is still open.
Novi Beograd qualified, but it hasn’t secured the top spot. The Serbian champion suffered only one loss in all competitions this season. It was a surprising defeat to Sabadell, which will host Novi Beograd on Wednesday. The Serbs mustn’t lose in Spain to keep 1st place. On the other side, Sabadell needs two points to qualify. The Spaniards are two points ahead of Brescia, which has a better score in head-to-head matches with Sabadell and will play against Steaua at home.
Since Brescia will likely beat the Romanians, the duel between Sabadell and Novi Beograd is a must-win match for both teams to achieve their goals.
Schedule: Sabadell – Novi Beograd (12:30), Brescia – Steaua (20:00).
Standings: 1. Novi Beograd 12, 2. Sabadell 10, 3. Brescia 8, 3. Steaua 0
Group B (Wednesday)
Both matches in Group B will be just for pride and a nice goodbye to the first half of the season. Two giants, Olympiacos and Pro Recco, will meet in Piraeus. Regardless of that result, Pro Recco will finish 1st, and Olympiacos 2nd.
Jug, which secured 3rd place, will welcome Dynamo Tbilisi.
Schedule: Olympiacos – Pro Recco (19:00 – 18:00 CET), Jug – Dinamo (19:00).
Standings: 1. Pro Recco 15, 2. Olympiacos 11, 3. Jug 4, 4. Dinamo 0
