Since their promotion to the top flight of women's water polo two seasons ago, Tenerife Echeyde's women's section has been a formidable presence in the transfer market. They have now secured another top-quality player with the signing of Maryn Dempsey.
Twenty-two-year-old Maryn Dempsey joins Echeyde from the Cal Bears (University of California, Berkeley).
Dempsey began her water polo career at SOCAL Club in 2016, where she played until 2020 before joining Cal. During her four seasons at Cal (2021-2024), she reached the NCAA grand final last year, marking the team's first appearance in nearly a decade. She also earned several distinctions, including a place in the MPSF Ideal Seven, the entire NCAA tournament team, and the All-American team in 2024.
With the USA junior national team, Dempsey played in several tournaments with the U18 squad from 2017 to 2020, winning two gold medals at the Pan American Games in 2017 and 2019.
On the outgoings front, Tenerife said farewell to Kiwi centre-forward Emily Nicholson, who leaves after two seasons in the Canary Islands.
