In a sensational announcement today, Croatian club VK Zadar 1952 announced the signing of current world champion and goalkeeper, Mate Anic.
Anic, who was a member of the Croatian team that secured the world champioship title in Doha with his crucial save in the final penalty shootout, is set to bring his expertise to Zadar.
Zadar's coach, Goran Jovancevic, described the signing as "the greatest arrival in the history of Zadar water polo".
The 30-year-old goalkeeper joins from Jadran Split having won the previous two league titles with the club. But with Split recently signing Marko Bijac, it was right for Anic to move to the nearby city of Zadar - the countries 5th biggest city.
Despite finishing 8th in the league last season, the signing of Anic underlines Zadar's clearl ambitions to climb higher in the standings in the coming season.
Prior to Jadran Split, Anic's career included stints with Mornar Split, POSK, and the French team Stade Reims. His experience and skill are expected to significantly bolster VK Zadar 1952's performance as they aim to challenge the leading teams in the league.
