“Dear water polo fans,
As a long-standing representative of Montenegro and a member of the water polo club Marseille, I feel obligated to address the public.
Last Wednesday, during the first Champions League match in Marseille, an incident occurred in the game that I would never wish for. After scoring a goal, there was an unfortunate reflexive contact with Vuk Milojević, a player from Jadran Herceg Novi, which sadly resulted in his injury and my expected exclusion.
I want to express my deepest regret over Vuk’s injury.
Water polo is a sport where dedication and passion can sometimes lead to less controlled actions, but I have never had the intention to harm the physical integrity of another player.
I have been in contact with Vuk since his return to Serbia.
I wish him a speedy recovery and return to the pool, as well as much success for the rest of the season.
Thank you all for your understanding.
Sincerely, Vladan Spaić ”
The suspension applies to club matches under European Aquatics, and Marseille has the right to appeal this decision.
After further medical examination, it was determined that Milojevic did not suffer a broken jaw, but rather a dislocation of teeth, and he is expected to be fit for play in 6 to 8 weeks.
