Serbia will compete in the World Championships in Singapore with a slightly revised roster from the team that won Olympic gold in Paris.
Four Olympic champions are absent: Radomir Drasovic, Nikola Dedovic, Nemanja Ubovic, and goalkeeper Vladimir Misovic. Ubovic was not on the extended roster this summer, Dedovic is recovering from an injury, while Drasovic and Misovic did not make the final cut.
The nine gold medalists from Paris who will participate in Singapore are Filipovic, Mandic, S. Rasovic, Randjelovic, Cuk, N. Jaksic, Vico, P. Jaksic, and V. Rasovic.
Serbia will have a total of ten Olympic gold medalists on its roster, as Djordje Lazic, the 2021 Olympic champion, returns to the team after missing the Paris Games.
Among the 15 players selected by head coach Uros Stevanovic are two who have recently been allowed to represent Serbia: Boris Vapenski (a returnee to the national team after 14 years) and Nikola Murisic.
Just as at the 2024 European Championships and the 2024 World Championships, Stevnovic decided to call up three centre-forwards (Vico, Lazic, Murisic).
While none of the 15 players will be making their debuts at the World Championships, Vapenski and Murisic will be playing for Serbia at the Worlds for the first time. Murisic has not participated in the World Championships since 2019 when he was a member of the Montenegrin team. Vapenski won several medals with Serbia before 2011, but he didn’t compete at the World Championships in that period. However, he represented Georgia at the 2022 World Championships.
