Sabadell has confirmed that it will include a Brazilian player on its roster in the upcoming season.
Today, the club announced it had signed a contract with a 26-year-old Rafael Real Vergara.
He won the Brazilian National Championship while playing for Esporte Clube Pinheiros in his hometown, Sao Paulo.
The arrival at Sabadell isn’t Vergara’s first experience playing in Europe. At the age of 16, he moved to Spain and played for junior teams in Barceloneta and Sabadell. Four years ago, he was a member of Partizan, a seven-time European champion.
Meanwhile, Vergara studied in the USA and played for two university teams in the NCAA League. In 2023, he was named the best player of the MPSF Conference while playing for UCLA. He previously excelled on the Long Beach State water polo team.
He also played in the 2024 USA National League and won the title with New York and was voted the MVP of the tournament.
Vergara has earned several medals at the Pan American and South American Games and Championships, representing Brazil in both senior and junior categories. However, he did not participate in this year's World Championships in Singapore.
