The matches in Kragujevac and Herceg Novi will be under the spotlight during the fourth round of the VRL Premier League, scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, Serbian champion Radnicki will host Sabac, the current league leader. A day later, Montenegrin champion Jadran will welcome Novi Beograd, which, like Sabac, secured all nine points in the first three rounds, but has a slightly worse goal difference.
Radnicki is in big need of points against Sabac to move closer to the top of the table and to boost the team’s confidence, which may be even more crucial at this moment. In the previous two rounds, Radnicki won only one point in the derbies against Jadran and Novi Beograd. Radnicki’s new team is still finding its rhythm, but other teams are improving their performance as well. A victory over Sabac would be significant for the main title contender, especially with a very important away Champions League game in Zagreb coming on Wednesday.
Sabac has demonstrated in prior matches that it is a serious contender for a spot in the Final Four of the Premier League and will not arrive in Kragujevac with a white flag.
Jadran has been performing very well this season, and similarly, Novi Beograd has shown promise. The Belgrade-based team’s victory over Radnicki on Monday reaffirmed that the rejuvenated Novi Beograd team has potential. In their previous match in Herceg Novi, last season, Jadran halted Novi Beograd’s winning streak across all competitions. This time, Jadran has a slight advantage at home in this derby, and small details will likely determine the winner. The team that loses on Saturday will not have to wait long for a rematch, as the next encounter between Novi Beograd and Jadran is set for November 11 in Belgrade as part of the Champions League third round.
In Podgorica, Buducnost and Crvena Zvezda, both teams yet to score a point, will face each other. The Red-Whites have a more experienced and high-quality squad, but they are currently in crisis. The Podgorica team hopes for another poor performance from Red Star, which would enhance their chances of pulling off a surprise.
Former European champions, Partizan and Primorac, will meet in Belgrade. Similar to the match in Podgorica, a victory for the home team would be considered a surprise.
