Novi Beograd, Radnicki, Sabac, and Sava have qualified for the final tournament of the Serbian Cup, which will take place on November 28 and 29.
Sabac returns to the semifinals after a six-year absence. Sava, the development team of Sabac, will make its debut in the Final Four tournament after a series of surprising wins. Radnicki is participating in the final tournament for the eighth time in a row, and Novi Beograd is making its sixth consecutive appearance.
The host of the tournament will be determined following the draw.
An encounter between Crvena Zvezda, the finalist in the previous three editions (including a win in the 2022/23 season), and Sabac was the most exciting match in the quarterfinals. Recently, Sabac had outclassed Crvena Zvezda in the Premier VRL League, winning 15:4. This time, Crvena Zvezda put up much stronger resistance. In the early stages of the game, it appeared that Sabac would secure another convincing victory, as it led 4:0 after the first quarter and 7:2 at halftime. Nevertheless, the “Red-Whites” began to mount a comeback. With only 63 seconds left in the game, they narrowed the gap to just one goal. However, no further goals were scored, and Sabac ultimately secured a place in the semifinals with a 10:9 victory. Macic scored three goals for Sabac, while Radovic matched that performance for Crvena Zvezda.
Sava, which competes in the Serbian First A League (a second-tier competition), caused the biggest surprise of this season’s Cup by defeating three teams from the Serbian Super League (and the VRL First League) en route to the semifinals. After beating Zemun in the first round and Valis Valjevo in the eighth-finals, Sava hosted NBG Vukovi in the quarterfinals. The visitors from Belgrade led 6:3 after 16 minutes. Sava scored five unanswered goals in the third period, taking an 8:6 lead. In the last quarter, the hosts increased the margin of their win to three goals – 12:9. Icitovic contributed four goals to the triumph, while Muncan was a three-time scorer for NBG Vukovi.
Novi Beograd and Radnicki dominated in their quarterfinal games.
Novi Beograd, the Cup winner in the previous two seasons, defeated Partizan 16:8, with four goals each from Martinovic and Vasic. Ilic scored two for Partizan.
Radnicki faced Vojvodina in Novi Sad without Prlainovic, Pijetlovic, Vlachopoulos, Dedovic, and Nikola Jaksic, who is still recovering from an injury. Nevertheless, the Kragujevac-based team secured a victory with a double-digit margin, winning 16:5. Strahinja Rasovic and Bulgarian Samuil Ivanov each scored three goals for the winning side.
