Montenegro beat Georgia 18:13 (5:2, 3:2, 5:5, 5;4) in both teamsβ first preparation game ahead of the European Championships.
The Montenegrins hosted Georgia in Kotor. The home team got off to a good start and took a 3:0 lead. At halftime, the Montenegrins led 8:4, and early in the third quarter, they stretched the margin to six (10:4). Georgia, coached by Athanasios Kechagias, Primorac’s head coach, pulled a comeback and cut its deficit to 13:15Β with two minutes to go. However, the Montenegrins scored the last three goals in the game.
Some of Montenegro’s most experienced players missed the match (Tesanovic, Markovic, Spaic, Kholod, etc).
The home teamβs top scorer was Filip Gardasevic with five goals, and Srdjan Janovic added four.Β Valiko Dadvani excelled in Georgia by scoring four goals. The centre-forward and former Montenegro player, Stefan Pjesivac, netted two goals for the visitors.
Montenegro will play against Hungary, France, and Malta in Group Stage I at the Europeans in Belgrade. Georgia was drawn into the group with Croatia, Greece and Slovenia.
