The first half of the Group Stage in the 2019/20 Champions League was completed today, by the last match of Day 7.
The 7th round was closed by a Hungarian derby. OSC and Ferencvaros faced off in Budapest. The match ended with no winner – 10:10.
Visiting teams recorded wins in the last two games of this round in Group A. Barceloneta defeated Jadran Split 13:5 and climbed to the 2nd place. Szolnok beat Spandau 14:10.
The other five games of Day 7 were played on Monday.

Group A
Spandau 04 – Szolnok 10:14 (3:3, 2:5, 3:2, 2:4)

Spandau 04 fought hard, but Szolnok, the favorite in the match played in Berlin, took all three points. The Germans were leading 1:0 and 2:1 in the opening minutes. Szolnok turned around a deficit to a 3:2 lead, but Romanian Tiberiu Negrean leveled the score in the last second of the first period.
Szolnok scored three goals in a row in the first four minutes of the second period and went 6:3 up. From that point on, the Hungarians’ advantage was never smaller than two goals. The visitors controlled the match and recorded a nice 14:10 win.
Jadran S – Barceloneta 5:13 (1:3, 2:3, 2:3, 0:4)

Jadran, playing without a few injured players and the members of the junior national team, didn’t surprise Barceloneta. Jadran scored an opening goal, but Barceloneta responded with a 5:0 run to gain a 5:1 lead. Barceloneta went 8:3 up early in the fourth period, and there was no way back for the home team.

The clash of the Budapest-based rivals offered a lot of thrills. OSC started better, Ferencvaros led for most of the time, but in the end, the match ended in a draw.
OSC, the home team in this match, had a 2-goal advantage (3:1) after the first quarter. Ferencvaros dominated the second quarter, and it took a 4:3 lead by the middle break.
Denes Varga converted a penalty in the first minute of the second half and doubled the visitors’ advantage (5:3). OSC missed a lot of chances during the second period. After Varga’s penalty, the hosts finally recalled their big form from the first period and equalized with two goals in the 48 seconds – 5:5.
OSC gained a lead – 8:7 three minutes before the last break. However, Ferencvaros regained an advantage, with two goals at the finish of the third period. Before the 4th period, “Fradi” led 9:8.
Defenses dominated in the opening minutes of the last quarter. Andrija Prlainovic netted a beautiful action goal from the distance to level the score -9:9 two minutes and 44 minutes before the end. The sides entered the last minute tied (9:9). Just 48 seconds before the final buzzer, Denes Varga converted a man-up to give the visitors a new lead (10:9). Still, the drama wasn’t over yet.
OSC forced a penalty shot with 29 seconds to go. Krisztian Manhercz took responsibility and made no mistake from the 5m line for 10:10.
Ferencvaros had an extra player in the last attack, but OSC’s Ubovic blocked a shot from Marton Vamos in the last second, and the match ended with no winner.
