Vasas and Ferencvaros staged power demonstrations in today’s second round of the Hungarian League and beat their respective rivals with ease. PVSK overcame Miskolc in a very thrilling finish. Eger and Honved recorded solid wins
Three games are postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic that affected Hungarian water polo in the past three weeks. According to the latest news, most of the infected players have recovered. But some of them are still quarantined, or they were self-isolated until recently. So, the games Szolnok – BVSC, OSC – KSI, UVSE – Szentes will be held later.

Vasas’s defense, led by goalkeeper Branislav Mitrovic (who collected 15 saves), was superb today. Vasas traveled to north Hungary and played against Tatabanya. The hosts scored just one goal. Vasas had earned an 8:0 lead before Tatabanya got on the scoreboard in the 28th minute. After that, Vasas responded with one goal for a 9:1 victory.
Vasas played its first match in the 2020/21 league, as well as Ferencvaros, since the encounter between these two teams of Day 1 is postponed.
The reigning champion played without a few key players. Denes Varga and Gergo Zalanki have been out of the team for a long time because of the injuries. Besides the two, goalkeeper Vogel, and Kallay, also, missed today’s match against Szeged. But, the European champion had no problems in beating the visitors from Szeged – 16:6. Szilard Jansik was the best scorer with four goals.
An encounter between PVSK Pecs and Miskolc, played in Pecs, was the most exciting match of the day. The visiting team was a favorite, and it played very well in the opening minutes. In the middle of the third quarter, Miskolc had a 6:3 lead. Just before the finish of the first half, the hosts started climbing back. They earned a 9:7 lead with 03:47 minutes remaining on the clock. But, Miskolc scored two goals in a span of 55 seconds and equalized – 9:9 with 27 seconds to go. But, the visitors couldn’t save a point. Three seconds before the end, Marton Csaba converted a man-up and PVSK celebrated a 10:9 victory.
After a narrow 14:13 win over KSI in the first round, Eger was more powerful today. The rejuvenated team of Eger hosted Kaposvar and cruised to a 9:4 victory.
Honved collected the points in the match against Debrecen. The sides were tied (4:4) early in the second quarter. Then, Honved scored three unanswered goals for a 7:4 lead and kept the distance until the end (12:9).

Hungarian Cup final tournament on September 26 and 27
The first coronavirus cases in Hungarian water polo were registered before the final tournament of the Hungarian Cup in early August, and the Hungarian Federation immediately postponed the tournament.
Today, the Presidency of the Hungarian Water Polo Federation determined the new dates of the final tournament. The remaining games of the Cup will be held on September 26 and 27 (Saturday and Sunday).
