While the remaining Olympic tickets in Rotterdam are further divided, the Dutch club teams in the highest league just finished a new round. The men played a cup round (without national team players), the women played a round in the regular league.
Men
AZC remains unbeaten in group A. Waterpolo Den Haag could not break through that status on Saturday. It became 7:11. Only foreign players scored on the Alphen side. The Greek Jacoppo Mandolini found the net most often: 5 times. GZC Donk remains in the wake of AZC after a large 16: 5 win on ZPB. The team from Gouda now has three points less. The most tension was at the bottom of this group where SVH and BZC met. Until the last minute, the teams did not give each other an inch. The stars Mika Smelt (BZC) and the naturalized Serbian Milos Filipovic gave color to the match at the end. Seventeen seconds before the end, Smelt seemed to put the final score at 12:12, but eleven seconds later it was Filipovic who made the home team cheer with his fourth goal of the evening.
In group B, PSV recorded its first victory in this cup tournament. Co-low flyer De Ham was beaten remarkably easy. Already in the first period, PSV took distance (5:1). The scoreboard stopped counting at 18:9. ZVL-1886 did good business by beating Polar Bears. This puts the team from Leiden a bit more firmly in the fourth position and still has the top-2 in its sights. This is important because only the first two teams of each pool qualify for the knockout phase. UZSC – who had a bye on Saturday – seems certain of a place in the semi-finals. For now, Het Ravijn and ZPC Amersfoort are competing for the other place. On Saturday they played against each other. Het Ravijn seemed to be heading for the win for a long time. Only in the last period, ZPC Amersfoort took the lead for the first time by a goal from youngster Sam Kunz (8:7). Bas ter Brake, however, brought Het Ravijn back to the same level. When Mees Keuning then put the home team ahead again, the game was not over yet. Top scorer Yoran Loos balanced the score with his fourth goal and at the same time signed for the final score of 9:9, which meant that this match for second place remained undecided and Het Ravijn keeps the best papers.
Women
UZSC convincingly beat Het Ravijn (10:21) and therefore rose to second place in the ranking. Nerida Drewes was as often the top scorer on the Utrecht side. This time she scored six goals. UZSC and Polar Bears switched positions in the rankings. The team from Ede lost to ZV De Zaan. Because ZVL-1886 defeated De Ham (7:12), no fewer than five teams now have six points. Only GZC Donk is supreme. With twelve points out of four games, the team from Gouda is alone in the lead. On Saturday, Ingrid Veenhuis’ team left no stone unturned from number last SWOL 1894. The Zwolle goalkeeper Marith Roelen had to concede no fewer than 26 goals. National team player Brigitte Sleeking scored six of them.
