Elvis Fatovic, the head coach of the Australian national team, will guide Barceloneta in the next three seasons.
Fatovic (50) has been Australia’s head coach since 2013. A month ago, Fatovic said that he would leave the bench of the “Aussie Sharks” after the Tokyo Olympics.
There has been a lot of unofficial information and indications regarding Fatovic’s move to the Spanish champion in the last few weeks. This afternoon, Barceloneta announced that Fatovic had signed a 3-year contract with the club (until 2024). He will replace Chus Martin.
As a player, Fatovic was a member of Mladost and Jug. He won two Champions League playing for Jug (2001, 2006), and several medals representing Croatia, including European silver in 2003.
Fatovic retired as a player in 2007 and became Jug’s head coach. He guided Jug between 2007 – 2011. He was an assistant coach in the Croatian national team (2007-2012). In 2013, Fatovic was appointed as the head coach of the Australian national team. He led Australia to the silver medal in the 2018 FINA World Cup and to bronze in the 2019 FINA World League.
Barceloneta still hasn’t presented a roster for the new season. It’s sure that four players leave the club: Milan Aleksic (Partizan), goalkeeper Joao Coimbra (probably Novi Beograd), Blai Mallarach (probably Barcelona) and Michael Bodegas, who has been targeted by a few clubs.
Barceloneta’s reinforcements, according to unofficial sources, will be goalkeeper Unai Aguirre (Barcelona), Oscar Asensio (Sabadell), and Albert Ponferrada (Catalunya). But the club still hasn’t announced anything regarding new players
Italy: Figari moves from Recco to Quinto
Since the transfer window opening, Pro Recco has officially presented just three reinforcements – head coach Sandro Sukno, goalkeeper Marco Del Lungo, and left-handed Gergo Zalanki.

Today, Recco announced that defender Niccolo Figari (33) wouldn’t renew the contract.
Shortly after Recco’s announcement, Iren Quinto (Genoa) released the information that it had signed a two-year contract with Figari. Quinto finished 9th in the 2020/21 Italian League.
Figari played for Camogli (2003 – 2008), Pro Recco (2008-2019 and 2020-2021), while he spent one season in Brescia (2019-2020). Playing for Recco, he won 11 titles of the Italian champion, two trophies in the Champions League (2012 and 2021), while he has collected two gold medals at the World Championships with the Italian national team (2011 and 2019).
Before Figari, Dusan Mandic (Novi Beograd), Niksa Dobud (Jadran Split), and Marko Bijac (Olympiacos) left Recco. Stefano Luongo won’t renew the contract with Pro Recco. He is very close to moving to Brescia.
Croatia’s center-forward Luka Loncar (Jug) will join Pro Recco, but an official confirmation is still missing.
