The fifth day of the European Junior Women’s Championship in Sibenik saw the conclusion of the group stages as we now have our first four quarter-finalists.
Hungary, Greece, Russia and Spain are the first quarter-finalists having all topped their respective groups with maximum points.
Israel and Germany will battle it out tomorrow to play Hungary in the first quarter-final, while spectators in Sibenik will see a Balkan derby between Croatia and Serbia for the honour of playing Greece in the next round.
The Netherlands will set up a tasty quarter-final with Russia on Friday if they can beat Slovakia tomorrow while Spain awaits the winners of the final round of sixteen match between Italy and France.
Group A
There were no surprises in Group A today as Spain and Serbia won against the Czech Republic and Great Britain respectively. Elena Ruiz netted four times for the Spaniards, while Jovana Radonjic led the line for the Serbs.
Great Britain 6 – 18 Serbia (2-8, 2-2, 0-3, 2-5)
Spain 23 – 3 Czech Republic (2-1, 9-0, 6-1, 6-1)

Group B
Greece did the business against Turkey, and will play the winner of the round of sixteen match between Croatia and Serbia in the quarter-finals. The Netherlands had already secured the second spot, but their comphrensive victory over Ukraine ensured Eszter Gyori’s side are in a good motion for tomorrows round of sixteen game against Slovakia.

Netherlands 30 – 2 Ukraine (6-0, 8-2, 8-0, 8-0)

Group C
Russia cruise into the quarter-finals thanks to a dominant display over Malta. It wasn’t the forty-plus goals they got yesterday, but three Russian players – Valeriia Savisko, Viktoriia Guskova and Anisa Syromolotova, all bagged double hat-tricks.
Meanwhile, Croatia have consolidated second place in the group thanks to a well-deserved win over Romania. Iva Rozic continues to put herself in the shop window with yet more goals, while Dora Vujevic also impressed for her side.
Russia 39-2 Malta (9-1, 8-0, 12-1, 10-0)
Romania 4-21 Croatia (0-4, 4-7, 0-6, 0-4)

Group D
Hungary remarkably kept a clean sheet as they stuffed Slovakia by twenty-three goals. Csenge Jonkl was amongst the goals, while captain Panni Szegedi continued to play with huge confidence, contributing five.
It was high fives for Paola Di Maria and Guja Zizza as they both scored a handful of goals for Italy during their easy victory over Bulgaria. They will now have to concentrate hard if they are to beat France and progress to the semi-finals.

Slovakia 0 – 23 Hungary (0-3, 0-8, 0-6, 0-6)
