It has been announced this evening by Water Polo Australia that the former technical director of Singapore Water Polo, Paul Oberman, is the new Head Coach of the Aussie Stingers.
Oberman only began his director role in Singapore in January this year, but decided to return back to Australia anyway for personal reasons. He replaces Predrag Mihailovic as the Australian Women’s team Head Coach, who resigned after the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
The Aussie Stinger’s new coach represented Australia at the 1992 Olympic games in Barcelona as a player, and has previously worked in and around the Australian national team set-up as the Australian Men’s National team assistant coach for over 10 years.
The fifty-two year old has already said to the Australian press that his aim for the national team is to be on the podium in Paris 2024, with the expectation for success only increasing in Australia as they host the 2032 Olympic Games in Brisbane.
Oberman lands in Sydney on Saturday, but is not due to begin in his role until December.
