We very much welcomed the return of the Women’s OB I where for the first time this season, we have a new team sitting at the summit. After beating Dunaujvaros in the last game of 2021, Gyorgy Gerendas and his exciting Ferencvaros side shocked the current title holders, UVSE, to a 13-10 defeat.
Elsewhere today, Dunaujvaros smashed Gyor, BVSC won at home to Tatabanya, Eger defeated a hugely disappointing Keruleti and Szentes recorded a big win in the Southern derby, albeit against a depleted by spirited Szeged side.
FTC Telekom 13-10 UVSE (2-3, 2-1, 3-2, 6-4)
FTC: K. Cseho-Kovacsne, P. Petik, S. Mate, M. Regos, P. Pocze 2, V. Kovesdi 2, M. Koopman, A. Illes 3, S. Kuna 2, V. Valyi 1, D. Toth 2, D. Domsodi 1, S. Felkai, B. Neszmely
UVSE: A. Magyari, T. Aubeli, D. Abel-Antal 5, L. Forgacs 1, G. Szucs 1, R. Keszthelyi-Nagy 2, Z. Koka, K. Farago, P. Szegedi, N. Rybanska 1, K. Hajdu, K. Peresztegi Nagy, R. Irmes, E. Karpati
Gyorgy Gerendas’s Ferencvaros made a huge statement this afternoon by going top of the OB with a well-deserved victory over UVSE. In front of a home crowd, Fradi were really up for the derby in their first league game of 2022, and are now the only team in the division to remain undefeated. The game was all level at 10-10 with less than four minutes to go in the match, but three unanswered goals from Ferencvaros (Anna Illes 2 & Panna Pocze) ensured that the Green and White side of Budapest triumphed over the Purple and Yellow. Dora Abel-Antal had a great game for the away team, converting on five occasions, but it was not enough to get anything out of the game for Marton Benczur’s squad.
This result really wont be the ideal preparation for UVSE as they meet title rivals Dunaujvaros on Wednesday. A defeat at home to Dunaujvaros would be a huge dent in their aspirations for this season. Fradi travel west on Wednesday to meet Tatabanya.
Dunaujvaros 24-3 GYVSE Gyor (4-0, 7-1, 7-1, 6-1)
Dunaujvaros: L. Maczko, D. Szilagyi 2, N. Sajben 3, G. Gurisatti 4, B. Horvath 1, G. Mahieu 3, N. Szabo, K. Garda 2, A. Mucsy 3, L. Somogyvari 2, R. Pal, C. Szellak 3, N. Sumegi 1, S. Buis
Gyor: E. Kiss, A. Farkas 1, N. Hateier, B. Baksa, J. Vaszari, D. Torok 1, V. Nemeth, V. Huszti, D. Huszti, P. Kovacs, Z. Finta, I. Droth, K. Kurucz, P. Mozbauer
In the day’s early game, Dunaujvaros made no mistake in brushing aside struggling Gyor with a dominant 24-3 victory. Attila Mihok’s side were clinical going forward, but were equally impressive in limited Gyor anything in front of their own net in a composed and mature team display. Dunaujvaros’s goals were spread all across the team; Greta Gurisatti netted four times, while there were hat-tricks for Nikolett Sajben, Anna Mucsy, Csenge Szellak and Geraldine Mahieu – who over the break finalised her Hungarian citizenship from her native France.
BVSC-Zuglo 18-5 Tatabanya (4-1, 5-2, 4-1, 5-1)
BVSC: K. Kakas, F. Fekete, K. Meszaros Farkas 3, C. Dobos, A. Kreunusz, T. Farkas 3, K. Hnatuszyn, D. Leimeter 3, Z. Polak 1, N. Kele 4, L. Kenderes, A. Gemes 2, A. Gyongyossy 2, Z. Hajdu
Tatabanya: I. Zirighne Sos, H. Zantleitner, N. Zantleitner, P. Zink 1, B. Orban, T. Zold 1, K. Hollosi, L. Soti, E. Rajna 3, B. Bozso, J. Kovacs, L. Greso
BVSC began the calendar year how they left off last year, by continuing to be consistent in most aspects of their game. They easily saw off a depleted Tatabanya by 18 goals to 5. The contest was getting away from Gyor even at half-time – largely thanks to a first half hat-trick from Kata Meszaros Farkas. The result was beyond doubt by the end of the third quarter with the score at 13-4.
Matyas Petrovics, the Head Coach at BVSC, will be confident to finish in the top four again this season, but his side will have to keep up the good form if they are to keep the chasing Eger at bay. For Tatabanya, they have only won a single game this season (against Gyor) and are in ninth place, but a victory on Wednesday against Keruleti would see them leapfrog their rivals into at least eighth position.
ZF Eger 13-8 Keruleti TVE (4-1, 3-1, 4-3, 2-3)
Eger: A. Kiss, P. Jancso 3, K. Menczinger, L. Dobi 2, D. Molnar 1, S. Katona 1, R. Parkanyi, D. Czigany 2, Z. Galicz, A. Keresztes, I. Borsi 2, K. Bodi Fruzsina 2, S. Szilagyi, D. Turi
Keruleti: K. Papai, C. Palasti, L. Papp, H. Koncz 2, K. Kenez 1, H. Illes 2, R. Toth-Deme, P. Kudella 3, K. Kovacs, B. Fondor, K. Gasparics, N. Koltay, M. Dulic
Eger stay in 5th tonight after a well-earned victory over Keruleti. The scoreline made the game look somewhat competitive, but the result flatters Keruleti – who only started playing when they found themselves 10-2 down in the third period. Patricia Jancso put away three, while Dobi Dorina, Czigany, Borsi and Bodi Fruzsina all secure braces.
Keruleti perhaps can take some heart in the way they recovered after being so far behind. A second half hat-trick for Panna Kudella, and a brace from Henri Illes showed a bit of character to make the scoreline look better, but overall it was not a good day at the office for Denes Lukacs and his side – who looked more like the team from the beginning of the season, rather than the team we saw at the back-end of last year. They have a good chance to get back on track as they meet Gyor in the midweek.
Szentes 15-6 Szeged (5-2, 2-2, 3-1, 5-1)
Szentes: R. Aranyi, V. Varga 1, A. Hevesi 2, K. Macsai 1, V. Dankina 3, T. Kolarova 1, R. Boldizsar, I. Mihaly-Kadar 2, P. Bonca, L. Horvath 1, R. Kover-Kis 2, F. Toth 1, N. De Vries 1, J. Futsi Molnar
Szeged: B. Gyongyosi, K. Jenei, S. Tatarai, A. Torma, M. Pap 1, R. Bicskei 1, Z. Armai 1, N. Varga, D. Pinter Bonita, F. Meszaros
Good times are returning for former European Champions Szentes as they won the Csongrad-Csanad derby against a really depleted Szeged. While Szentes were the better team on the day, Szeged were really down to barebones – with only 10 players attending the game. The promising young Russian, Viktoria Dankina, made a hat-trick, with braces in the supporting cast from Varga, Boldizsar and Kover-Kis.
The win for Mark Matajzs’s side now keeps them in 6th, but 5 points clear of their COVID-hit rivals, Szeged. They have a season defining game in some ways on Wednesday away at Eger.
