Matchday 15 of the Division de Honor was as good as the last, but there was a big story in this year’s title race, with Mataro dropping points at Terrassa. Terrassa, in truth, should have won the game, and it took a goal in the last attack of the game to ensure the points were split. With Sabadell winning today against Catalunya, the title race looks as good as done. Mataro will hope not.
CN Mataro 7-7 CN Terrassa (4-2, 1-2, 1-2, 1-1)
Mataro: M. Sanchez, S. Morell 4, I. Piralkova, A. Gual, V. Sevenich, A. Timofeeva, C. Cambray, C. Nogue, M. Bach, Q. Bertran, A. Espar 1, B. Markoch 1, B. Colominas
Terrassa: S. Domene, B. Pastor, J. Panicello 1, B. Ortiz 1, C. Cantero, M. Cardona, N. Ten Broek, P. Pena, N. Morillo 1, P. Camus 2, O. Domenech 1, P. Leiton 1, E. Arcas
The big story of the day was that Mataro were held by Terrassa, who were unlucky not to win the game. It took a goal, thirteen second left in the match from Silvia Morell, who netted four time in the game, to rescue a point for Dani Ballart’s side. But this result is deeply frustrating for both sides, more so for Terrassa as they were on the brink of a significant win, while for Mataro, they can see the title race slipping away from them. Both sides face teams from Madrid next: Mataro travel to take on Concepcion Ciudad Lineal, while Terrassa will host Boadilla.
Astralpool Sabadell 17-5 CN Catalunya (4-1, 5-0, 6-2, 2-2)
Sabadell: L. Ester, M. Ortiz, B. Games, S. Van der Sloot 1, M. Serrano 3, M. Bonet, I. Casado, M. Garcia Godoy 3, J. Forca 5, M. Keuning 2, N. Perez 1, I. Gonzalez 2, P. Carilla
Catalunya: C. Ball, A. Ruiz 1, R. Schuijt 1, M. Van Rijn, B. Pascual 1, M. Sagrera 1, N. Begona 1, L. Escoda, G. Cavero, S. Diaz, L. Sanchez, C. Diaz, M. Terre
Sabadell’s star-studded side really put a young and rotated Catalunya to the sword today, with the gulf in class really evident in the match. Judith Forca netted another 5 goals, taking her season tally to an incredible 40 goals, with Marina Serrano and Maica Garcia supporting Forca with three each. With Mataro only securing a 7-7 draw at Terrassa, David Palma’s side now are two points ahead of Mataro, with a game in hand. Even at such an early stage, the gap is substantial, and it will be a tough ask for anyone to catch Sabadell and prevent them from winning the championship for the 19th time.
CE Mediterrani 16-6 CN Sant Feliu (5-1, 5-2, 3-2, 3-1)
Mediterrani: N. Trojan, A. Munoz 2, J. Cereijo 1, I. Wolves 6, C. Vilanova 2, C. Rodri, A. Batlle 1, A. Marcos 1, M. Viladot, L. Marsinach, P. Crespi 1, S. Lizotte 2, D. Willemsz
Sant Feliu: I. Costa, J, Soler, M. Bargallo, M. Bernabe, B. Goset 2, L. Roca Herrera 2, R. Maldonado, C. Moreno, D. Moreno, U. Del Sol Agusti, L. Hidalgo 1, M. Gomez, I. Turegano
A quick start for Maria Angeles’s side ensured that Mediterrani were triumphant over Sant Feliu. Despite the pressure being on from chasing Sant Andreu, they keep the fourth spot in the Division de Honor. Six of Mediterrani’s goals came via the strong centre-forward play of Dutch international Iris Wolves, while Alba Munoz, Carla Vilanova and Sarah Lizotte all registered braces. Mediterrani face Barca next week, while Feliu will be optimistic that they can give Rubi a good game in their next fixture.
Natacion Boadilla 4-10 CN Sant Andreu (2-3, 0-2, 1-2, 1-3)
Boadilla: M. Gutierrez, E. De la Cruz 1, E. Portillo 1, L. Campos, S. Gonzalez, C. Hagen, A. Gonzalez, M. De Quinta, E. Ruano 1, E. Alcon, M. Ramos, G. Gallinato 1, P. Moreno
Sant Andreu: A. Lorca, H. Ballesty 1, N. Perez 1, M. Van der Weijden 3, G. La Farre, H. Shabb, M. Cordobes, D. Mammolito 1, R. Prieto 1, M. Ungria, M. Palacio 1, A. Ruiz Barril 2, M. Terre
Sant Andreu continue to keep grinding out results and picking up points, and today they were well worth three points away at Boadilla. Marit Van der Weijden converted three times, with Andreu’s other goals came from Ballesty, Perez, Mammolito, Prieto, Palacio and Ruiz Barril.
Sant Andreu are still in fifth, and still trail Mediterrani by three points, but all they can do is pick up points until the two sides meet on the 12th March. However, they will need to pull out a big surprise if they are to get any points next weekend, as they take on Sabadell. Boadilla travel north to Terrassa next.
ESC Zaragoza 15-11 CN Atletic Barceloneta (4-3, 3-3, 5-4, 2-0)
Zaragoza: I. Moreno, A. Moya, M. Ciudad Herrera 5, I. Rosales 2, S. Lorente, A. Sarinena, N. Naya 3, A. Chicote, R. Corao, S. Perez, L. Gomez 2, J. Tazueco 2, S. Ballesta
Barceloneta: A. Farre, A. Garcia 1, N. Martin 3, C. Martin 1, N Josifovic, M. Altisen, A. Pastor, N. Mandic, B. Seto, J. Altisen, S. Garcia 2, M. Madre, P. Rutgers
The Aragonese side, Zaragoza, will celebrate a big victory tonight over Barceloneta. The game was tied up at 10-10 with 2 minutes 31 on the clock in the third, but two quick goals before the end of the period from Miriam Ciudad and Julia Tazueco, before a Ines Rosales Betran brace in the fourth sealed an important three points for Paula Esteban’s side. The aforementioned Miriam Ciudad converted on five occasions in the game, while there were hat-tricks apiece for Ines Rosales and Natalia Naya Manero. Nada Mandic’s quad of goals was not enough to rescue the points for Barca, who are now second bottom only ahead of AR Concepcion.
CN Rubi 13-9 AR Concepcion (3-0, 6-3, 1-4, 3-2)
Rubi: E. Jimenez, A. Roldan, I. Abril, L. Rion, M. Manchego, C. Abellan, E. Ruiz Barril 4, A. Rodriguez 1, E. Vesperinas, J. Prados 2, L. Soriano 2, A. Trivino 4, D. Gerschovsky.
Concepcion: L. Cruz, A. Moreno 2, I. San Pedro 1, R. Clemente 1, P. Sanchez, C. Rivera, E. Garcia 4, C. Rodri, C. Puente, A. Mira, R. Sofia 1, M. Peragon, L. Garcia.
Rubi defeated a very spirited AR Concepcion at Can Roses in the day’s last game. In what was probably Concepcion’s best performance this season, they played some really neat polo, and really put up a big fight in the second half of the game, with Elena Garcia scoring the majority of their goals (4). Rubi relied on their big shooters, Elena Ruiz (4), Judith Prados (2), Laia Soriano (2) and Mandy Trivino (4) for their goal haul, which keeps them in a very decent 6th place.
