Barceloneta won its 18th Spanish Cup (Copa del Rey).
The Final Eight of the Cup was held in Sabadell between Friday and Sunday.
Barceloneta faced host Sabadell in the final match. The best Spanish club in the 21st century recorded a convincing 12:5 victory to clinch its 10th Copa del Rey (the King’s Cup) in a row.
The 2014 European champion cruised to the trophy, as it recorded quite comfortable wins in the quarterfinals and semifinals, too

The finalists didn’t have demanding tasks in the quarterfinals. Barceloneta beat Sant Andreu (12:6), while Sabadell was better than Mediterrani (15:6).
There were no surprises in the quarterfinals – the teams ranked 1st – 4th in the Spanish League advanced to the semifinals.
Barceloneta defeated Barcelona 13:7 in the semis. The man of the match was Alvaro Granados, who made the difference by scoring seven goals. Barceloneta led from the beginning. Barcelona equalized twice (1:1 2:2). Then, Barceloneta produced a 5:0 run , jumped to a 7:2 lead and that put them on the right track.
The second semifinal, Terrassa – Sabadell, was more exciting, although Sabadell had a 3-goal lead three times (6:3, 7:4, 8:5). Terrassa came very close – 8:9 in the 30th minute, but it didn’t go further. Sabadell kept a minimal advantage and qualified for the gold-medal match.
The final lacked excitement. Barceloneta’s defense was outstanding. The reigning champion earned a 4:0 lead by the 11th minute. Sabadell got on the scoreboard only 92 seconds before the end of the second quarter. Banicevic netted for 1:4. That goal “woke up” the hosts, who reduced the gap to two (4:6) in the 22nd minute. However, Barceloneta answered with four goals in a row and jumped to10:4 lead (26th minute) and there was no way back for Sabadell.
Miguel Del Toro, who scored three goals, was voted the MVP of the final. Barceloneta’s Unai Aguirre was picked as the best goalkeeper of the gold medal match.
The Spanish Cup was established in 1987. Five clubs have won the Copa del Rey so far.
