The latest matchday saw no changes in the top four of the league, but arguably the biggest story of the day was in Tatabanya, as a last quarter capitulation gave Szeged a big win in the OB I. Tatabanya led by three goals at halftime, but 7 goals on the bounce for Szeged in the last two periods saw them come from behind to win all three points. UVSE beat Eger, while top of the table Fradi were pushed hard by Szentes. BVSC were expected to beat Gyor, and they did, while Keruleti provided little resistance to Dunaujvaros

In the last game of the day, UVSE halted Eger in their tracks with a well deserved 16-9 win. Natasa Rybanska added four more goals to her impressive 26 goals for this season, while there double scores for Szucs, Keszthelyi-Nagy, Farago and Szegedi. Eger gave a good account of themselves, with decent displays from Dora Czigany (4) and Menczinger and Dobi Dorina (both 2) but were ultimately bested by a classier outfit. Marton Benczur’s side are hot the heels of league leaders, Ferencvaros, and it seems ever likely that the UVSE vs FTC game on the 9th March may be season defining.

Ferencvaros remain top of the OB I, but had to work hard to beat Szentes this afternoon. Fradi took a 3-0 lead at the beginning of the match (with a brace from Anna Illes), and then scored three unanswered midway through the second period (2 from Vanda Valyi) and that was the difference in the game. Eight of Szentes’ outfield 11 netted in the match, and even despite the defeat, Mark Matajsz’s team stay level on points with Eger (who lost today at UVSE).
FTC next face their Budapest rivals, BVSC, while a tough assignment at home against Dunaujvaros awaits Szentes on Wednesday.

Szeged secured their third victory of the season with a remarkable comeback in the second half to overturn an 8-6 deficit to win 13-8 away at Tatabanya. The hosts were leading with relative comfort midway through the third, with the scored at 7-4 thanks to braces from Petra Zink and Eniko Rajna, but the hosts spectacularly lost control of the game in the last period with goals from Reka Miklos, Kata Jenei (2), Szonja Tatrai, Lilli Raski, Reka Bicskei and Zita Armai.
The result leaves Tatabanya level on points with bottom of the league Gyor, but level on points with them (both have 3). For Szeged, although relegation may never have been a serious concern, this result puts them six points ahead of today’s rivals, which will give them a good boost going into their clash on Wednesday with Gyor.

Dunaujvaros pushed aside Keruleti very easily with a straightforward 15-2 win. By half time the game was over as a contest, with first half hat-tricks from both Greta Gurisatti and Krisztina Garda. While the score was only limited to 4-0 in the second half, DFVE had taken their feet off the gas knowing the result was not in question. The win keeps them third, but Dunaujvaros are three points off second placed UVSE, and a further point behind league leaders Ferencvaros. Up next for the Orange and Turquoise is Szentes, while the games look ever tougher for Keruleti who will host UVSE at 19:00pm on Wednesday.

Five goals from Anett Alexa Gemes, and a quadruple of goals from Kata Meszaros Farkas and Dora Alaksza sealed the win for fourth placed BVSC over struggling Gyor. Although the home side took a surprise two goal lead within the first two minutes, BVSC recovered an proceeded to score nine unanswered goals, with ten more before the game was over. Matyas Petrovics’s side are in a strange situation whereby they cannot realistically win the league, but are not really at significant threat to lose their European spot. If BVSC can manage to get anything from their next game, against FTC, they might feel they can make ground up on third placed Dunaujvaros..
