Two games played in Budapest have been the highlights of the 22nd round of the Hungarian League.
Ferencvaros earned an away victory over BVSC – 14:11 in the first of the two derbies played today.
The round was closed with the encounter between Vasas and OSC. Vasas recorded an 8:6 victory and helped Ferencvaros reach the top of the table.
After the 22nd round, Ferencvaros is in 1st place, despite the fact that it has played two matches less than OSC, Szolnok, and Vasas. Ferencvaros has collected 58 points, OSC 56,Szolnok 55, Vasas 51, etc.

In the first half of the regular season, OSC and Vasas shared the points (11:11). Nothing but a big battle was expected of their today’s duel. The first half was an even contest. OSC scored the first goal in the match. Then, Vasas led 2:1, 3:2, 4:3, but the sides were tied at 4:4 at halftime. The third period was crucial for Vasas’ win, while the man who made the difference was Bence Batori. He scored all three goals in the third quarter. Vasas entered the final period leading 7:4. The hosts kept OSC goalless for more than 16 minutes. Gergo Burian broke the visitors’ silence in the 29th minute for 5:7. But, shortly after Mezei responded, scoring for 8:5. OSC narrowed the gap, but nothing more than that, and suffered the second loss in the 2021/22 Hungarian League. Before Vasas, only Ferencvaros managed to defeat OSC (7:6 in November).
Both goalkeepers were up to the task today. Branislav Mitrovic (Vasas) and Marton Levai (OSC) posted 16 saves each. Vasas’s defense managed to stop OSC’s best scorer Kristian Manhercz, who didn’t find the net today.
Ferencvaros (still without Denes Varga) recovered from a painful 7:17 loss to Barceloneta in the Champions League and beat BVSC quite easily. Only three goals separated the rivals at the end of the game. Still, Ferencvaros secured the win before the fourth quarter. The visitors led from the beginning. BVSC came close in the middle of the first period (2:3). After that, Ferencvaros netted four goals in a row to jump to a 7:2 lead. Midway through the third period, BVSC reduced the gap to three (5:8), but the visitors responded with three quick goals and earned a safe 11:5 advantage (22nd minute).
Szolnok did a good job in Pecs beating BVSC. The reigning champion had an 8:4 advantage at halftime. Early in the third, Szolnok stretched the margin to five (9:4) and controlled the match.
After eight consecutive losses, Eger finally collected three points beating Kaposvar. Eger opened the game excellently and rushed to a 6:0 lead (12th minute). However, Kaposvar didn’t surrender and responded with a 5:1 series. The visitors 5:7 in the middle of the third period (5:7). But, they couldn’t catch up with Eger.
Miskolc and Szentes shared the points – 7:7. Miskolc had a slim 6:5 advantage midway through the third period. Szentes ent ahead in the 31st minute (7:6). But, Miskolc’s Krasznai scored an action goal just 25 seconds before the buzzer, and the hosts saved a point.
Honved and Szeged recorded convincing wins.
