After the 16th round of the Italian Championships, the league-leader Pro Recco increased its advantage over 2nd-placed Brescia to seven points. Besides, Recco played one match fewer.
Brescia earned only a point in the match with Telimar, while Pro Recco blew Trieste away.

The derby Telimar – Brescia opened the round. The match was played a few days ago because Telimar played in the LEN Euro Cup final today. It was a game with a lot of turns. At halftime, Telimar led 4:2. Brescia scored four straight goals in the third period and entered the final eight minutes leading 6:4. Telimar halved the deficit in the 26thminute (5:6). Shortly after, Renzuto Iodice gave the visitors a 7:5 advantage. But, the Sicilians saved the point. In the 31st minute, Turchini netted for 8:9. Just 19 seconds before the buzzer, Basic netted an equalizer – 9:9.
The other two games in the playoffs group lacked excitement.
Trieste couldn’t surprise Pro Recco. The European champion built an early 4:0 lead and didn’t slow down until the end.
Salerno’s defense was outstanding in the first quarter of the match against Savona. The hosts had a 1:0 lead after the first period. But, Savona didn’t let the host dream of surprise too long. After the first break, the visitors found their rhythm and recorded an 8-goal victory.
