Viktor Jelenic has been re-elected as the Serbian Water Polo Federation President.
An Electoral Assembly of the Federation has been held in Belgrade today.
Jelenic was elected with 28 votes in favor, two neutral, and one against, and started serving his second four-year term.
He was the only candidate. Several weeks ago, Olympic champion and Partizan’s captain Stefan Mitrovic announced that he would run a presidential race. But, he withdrew his candidacy a few days ago.
Jelenic, the two-time Olympic medalist (silver in 2004 and bronze in 2000), summed up his previous term. He said that the Federation repaid all debts it had when he was elected the President for the first time. Serbian water polo and the clubs have been supported by the appropriate national authorities, the Serbian League is very quality, three Serbian clubs play in the Champions League, and the national teams have continued the row of successes, Jelenic said among other things. He emphasized that Serbia had won gold medals at the Olympic Games, Men’s World U20 Championships and European U17 Championships in 2021.
The President underlined that the Federation worked on plans of building a new 50m-pool in Belgrade.
Sasa Vlaisavljevic has been reelected as the President of the Serbian Water Polo Federation Assembly. Besides Vlaisavljevic, former national team member Slavko Gak ran for this position. Vlaisavljevic received 23, and Gak 11 votes. In his correct speech before voting, Gak said that the Serbian Water Polo Federation wasn’t on the right track, in his opinion. Gak is the Secretary of the City of Belgrade for education. If he had been elected, he would have had to resign from the position of the Secretary or the President. According to the Law on Sports of the Republic of Serbia, one person cannot have two functions in public institutions simultaneously.
