The second-best Greek club Vouliagmeni has a new coach – a Serbian ace Vladimir Vujasinovic. According to unofficial news, other Serb will guide the Greek champion Olympiacos. Igor Milanovic, Vujasinovic’s former teammate and his coach in Partizan, is very close to signing the contract with Olympiacos.
First, let’s see what an official piece of information is.
One of the best water polo players ever Vladimir Vujasinovic has been appointed as a new coach of Vouliagmeni, the club announced this evening.
Vladimir Vujasinovic will take over Vouliagmeni from the next season. He will replace Hrvoje Koljanin, who left the club after four years on the bench.
Vujasinovic, who won 2nd place in our voting for the best player in the world in the first two decades of the 21st century, has coached three clubs so far, since his retirement as a player in 2013 – Partizan, Pro Recco and Novi Beograd.
He won several domestic Cups and national championships with Partizan and Recco, and 2nd place in the 2018 Champions League with Pro Recco. Vujasinovic’s most significant international result as Partizan’s coach was the Champions League semifinals with a very young team in the season 2013/14. Vujasinovic arrived at Novi Beograd three years ago and resigned in January.
As a player, Vujasinovic won three Olympic medals (silver in Athens in 2004, bronze in Sydney in 2000, and Beijing in 2008), the title of the World Champion (2005), and many other medals with the national teams of Yugoslavia and Serbia,. four Champions Leagues (three with Pro Recco and one with Partizan), etc. In his successful career, Vujasinovic played for Primorje, Crvena Zvezda, Roma, Barcelona and Partizan.
He coached the Serbian junior national team, and won several medals at major tournaments.
“I am very pleased to become the new coach of the Vouliagmeni Nautical Club, a club that I have always appreciated. Milanovic to replace Vlachos?
Olympiacos is still without a coach after Theodoros Vlachos finished his successful mission in Piraeus. As things stand now, Igor Milanovic will arrive at the club, but a confirmation of this big transfer is still missing.
Milanovic arrived at Novi Beograd a month after Vujasinovic’s departure (Dejan Jovovic guided the team in the meantime). But, he resigned as Novi Beograd’s head coach after winning 2nd place in the Champions League (and the title of the Serbian and the Regional League champion before). Novi Beograd hasn’t officially announced that Milanovic had left. Still, Milanovic isn’t Novi Beograd’s coach anymore, that’s sure.
Since the news about Novi Beograd’s and Milanovic’s split up appeared, there have been a lot of rumors about his possible arrival at Olympiacos. As mentioned before, there is still no official confirmation by Olympiacos and Milanovic. But, several sources say that the two sides had reached an agreement. Greek media write that only an official signing is missing.
Milanovic won two Olympic golds as a player (1984 and 1988), three Champions Leagues as a player (two with Mladost and one with Catalunya), and two as a coach (Partizan and Pro Recco).
