The Greek women’s league has returned! There was a full complement of matches today, which included some interesting games, and plenty of goals.
The most exciting match of the day was a 10-10 thriller between Glyfada and Vouliagmeni. Olympiacos had no trouble in defeating Peristeri, while Patra, Panionios and Ethnikos all secured maximum points. Alimos recorded their first ever A1 victory, beating PAOK from Thessaloniki.

The day’s most exciting matchup was undoubtedly between divisional powerhouses Glyfada and Vouliagmeni, who battled to a heart-pounding, 10-10 draw. After a tense match, Aussie Stinger Amy Ridge thought she had won the game for the Nautical Club with less than thirty seconds left in the game, but Eleni Grigoropoulou snatched a late leveller at the death, with less than a second to go, to rescue what could be a vital point for Theodoros Andreakis’s team come the end of the season.

Alimos have secured their first-ever A1 victory, defeating PAOK 12-7 on the road with a solid performance. Silvia Logothetis netted a quad in the match, but Alexandra Asimaki will take the headlines – the league’s all time top goal scorer added another goal today, taking her tally to an incredible 737 goals in 602 games.

Ethnikos had no trouble seeing off Rethymnou in the reigning LEN Trophy Champions’ first game of the season. After taking a 5-0 lead in the first period (Benekou, Kontoni, Kanetidou, and Katsprii), the Blue Whites never looked back against the team from Crete. The first victory for Stefanos Leandros as Ethnikos’s coach will be a satisfying one, as his side looks ahead to a tough fixture next weekend against Alimos.

The champions of Greece were in no mood to mess about in their first step to retaining their title, bossing Peristeri 23-5. Panionios start their 2022/2023 campaign with a well earned away victory against Larissa. The visitors took a two goal lead in the first, and although the game was close for the remaining three quarters, the slender lead at the beginning was ultimately enough to win the game for Tassos Papanastasiou’s team. Panionios face the Dolphins next, while Larissa have a tough trip to the capital to face Olympiacos.

Dionysia Kouretas’ impressive performance on the opening day of the season led Michalis Lazardis’s team to a very grateful opening day victory against AEK. Seventeen-year-old Koureta was the leading scorer for the dolphins with five goals, while Maria Balatsa scored a hat-trick.
