The first qualifying round of the Women’s Champions League has concluded, and twelve teams have advanced to the second qualifying round, which will be played 9-11 December.
Greece and Hungary will each have four teams in the second qualifying round, with Glyfada, Eger, Vouliagmeni, Ferencvaros, Dunaujvaros, and Ethnikos joining Olympiacos, and UVSE, who both received byes.
The two Italian sides that needed to qualify for Qualifying 2 did so with confidence. Despite losing today against Mediterrani, Plebiscito Padova topped Group C, while SIS Roma stayed unbeaten in Group D. Italian Champions, Ekipe Orizzonte, received a bye at Plebiscito’s expense.
There is a healthy Dutch contingent in the main group stage of the Champions League this year. Both ZVL 1886 and De Zaan have qualified for the next round, marking the first time since 2019 that two Dutch teams have advanced this far (ZVL and UZSC).
Mediterrani will join last year’s runner-up in the Euro League, Sabadell, in the QF2, but Terrassa, who finished fourth in Group B, will instead advance to the Euro Cup.
Thirteen of the sixteen teams in the Qualifying Round two return from the equivalent stage of the Euro League last season. The only changes are the two Dutch teams, ZVL and De Zaan, along with the debuting Eger, who replace Terrassa and the two excluded Russian teams, Dynamo Uralochka and KINEF-Kirishi.
The Eight teams that failed to qualify for the next round of the Women’s Champions League will play in the Women’s Euro Cup. The preliminary round of that competition is scheduled for 13-15th January.
