Favorites – Ferencvaros, OSC, Vasas and Honved – recorded wins in the 1st leg of the quarterfinals of the Hungarian Cup.
All teams earned solid advantages before the return matches.
The derby of this round was an encounter between OSC and Szolnok. OSC took control in the second quarter and recorded a nice 15:10 victory. BVSC was an equal opponent to Ferencvaros for most of the match. Still, the reigning champion secured a 5-goal win thanks to a 5:0 third period.

The opening minutes of the encounter between OSC and Szolnok promised a big battle, but the hosts recorded a quite convincing win. After a balanced 4:4 first quarter, OSC earned a 3-goal lead in the second period (7:4, 8:5). Szolnok cut the deficit to two goals in its first possession in the second half (6:8), but OSC quickly responded with two, went to 10:6 and from that point on, the difference was never smaller than three goals. In the end, OSC goes to Szolnok with a 5-goal advantage.
One quarter was enough for Ferencvaros to secure a comfortable win over BVSC. Each side scored three goals apiece in the first half. Ferencvaros led 1:0, BVSC went ahead in the middle of the second period (2:1). Ferencvaros answered with two goals. Still, the sides were tied at 3:3 at the middle break. But, the visitors netted five straight goals in the third period, and continued the series converting a 6 on 5 at the beginning of the fourth. Ferencvaros went to 9:3. Ferencvaros had a 7-goal lead (11:4). Still, BVSC didn’t surrender and reduced the gap with two late goals.
Already in the 2nd minute, Vasas scored the first goal in the match against Szeged. However, the visitors kept the Budapest-based side goalless for the following nine minutes. Early in the second period, Szeged leveled at 1:1. But, Vasas found its rhythm and struck back powerfully. The hosts, led by defender Sava Randjelovic, produced a 7:0 run. They built an 8:1 lead (17th minute) and maintained a nice seven-goal difference until the final buzzer.
Honved and Eger faced off in the swimming pool on Koer street. The home team, Honved, dictated the pace throughout the game, but it built a big-winning margin after the middle break. Eger was trying to come back in the first half. In the 14th minute, the visitors came very close to the rival (4:6). But, Honved killed all Eger’s hopes, scoring seven goals in a row. The Budapest-based side jumped to a 13:4 lead (25th minute). Each side scored three goals apiece in the remaining time.
