Mornar and Mladost faced off for the third time this season. Mladost recorded convincing wins in the Croatian Cup and the Regional League, but the third match was a close contest. Still, Mladost dictated the pace for more than two quarters.
In the 19th minute, the Zagreb-based side had a 3-goal lead (8:5). But, Mornar didn’t say its last word. The hosts netted four straight goals and turned around a 3-goal deficit to a 9:8 lead. Buzdovancic scored the 9th goal for Mornar 33 seconds before the end of the third quarter. Just seven seconds from the last break, Jelaca leveled at 9:9. The teams fought a hard battle in the opening minutes of the final period. Mornar took the lead in the 27th minute again (Buzdovancic for 10:9). But, Mladost responded with a 4:0 run. The Zagreb-based side regained a 3-goal lead in the 30th minute (13:10) and the match was decided.
The reigning champion Jug hosted Medvescak. Despite the fact that the title-holder played without several key players (Jokovic, Fatovic, etc), who got a rest after a big win over Marseille in the Champions League, the match was a one-sided contest.
Jadran Split recorded a convincing win, as well as Jug. Jadran needed one half to secure a convincing win over Solaris in Sibenik. The visitors opened the match with a 7:0 blast. Solaris got on the scoreboard in the 11th minute. After that, Jadran responded with three goals and had a 10:1 advantage at halftime. Solaris narrowed the distance in the second half.
POSK recorded the first win in the season, beating Zadar, which is still without the points. There were a lot of twists and turns in the game. Before the final quarter, POSK had a slim 8:7 advantage. In the middle of the fourth period, Zadar leveled at 8:8. In the following minutes, both defenses worked well. It seemed that the teams would share the points. Still, Tonkovic scored a winner for POSK with 32 seconds left on the clock.
Primorje beat KPK Korcula with ease.
