A visiting team recorded a win in the last big derby of the Italian Championships in 2022.
Ortigia defeated Savona 16:12. It was Ortigiaβs second victory over Savona in four days. Unlike a previous win (in the return leg of the LEN Euro Cup eighth-finals), this one is quite important, especially because it was earned in Savona.
Brescia and Pro Recco didnβt have demanding tasks before the challenges in the Champions League next week.
Telimar edged out Salerno. A goal also decided an encounter between Catania and Quinto.

Savona and Ortigia faced each other for the third time in the two weeks and a half. Savona defeated the Sicilians in the 1st leg of the LEN Euro Cup eight finals (7:2). Ortigia took revenge for that defeat on Wednesday (13:9), but that wasnβt enough for the quarterfinal ticket. Today, the Sicilians recorded a win which might be very important in the race for 3rd place. Ortigia started excellently. The visitors needed just 111 seconds to build a 3:0 lead. That set the tone of the match. Ortigia was always in front. It maintained a 3-goal difference until the middle brek (8:5). The Sicilians went to 10:5 with two early goals in the third quarter. Savona unsuccessfully tried to come back. Before the final quarter, the score was 8:13. The hosts netted two goals at the beginning of the fourth period for 10:13. But, Ortigia responded in the same way, it rebuilt a safe 5-goal lead (15:10) with three minutes left.
Telimar beat Salerno narrowly (10:9). The game was open until the end, but the middle of the game was vital for the Palermo-based side’s victory. At the end of the second and the beginning of the third quarter, Telimar scored four goals in a row. Salerno got off to a better start. In the middle of the second quarter, the hosts led 5:3. But, Telimar closed the second quarter with three straight goals, and added one in the third to earn a 7:5 advantage. Salerno cut the deficit to one goal (6:7), but at the beginning of the fourth quarter, Telimar stretched the margin to three (9:6). But, the visitors didnβt secure a victory yet. Salernoβs Spaniard Barrosso found the net in the29th minute for 9:10. There was still a lot of time for a complete comeback, but Telimar kept a minimal advantage in the last three minutes.
The top two teams, Pro Recco and Brescia, were convincing in the 10th round.
Bogliasco kept up with Pro Recco for almost two quarters. Recco started slowly and quite relaxed in defense. Bogliasco did its best and didnβt let the big favorite make a big difference in the first half. Β Ten seconds before the end of the 2nd quarter, only two goals separated the rivals (7:9). Cannella converted a man-up for 10:7 in the dying seconds of the first half. The hosts netted six straight goals after the middle break. They went to 16:7 and maintained the difference until the end.
Brescia dominated in the match against Anzio. The leader of the Champions League Group B earned a 3:0 advantage in less than two minutes and proved which team the favorite was.
The game Trieste – De Akker was similar to the duels in Brescia and Recco. Trieste’s defense didn’t shine, but the attackers did their job well, and the favorite recorded a comfortable victory.
The encounter between Catania and Quinto was a really even contest. Catania led throughout the first two quarters and a half, but the hostsβ advantage was never big because Quinto successfully chased the rival and leveled several times. Two minutes before the end of the third, Catania had a slim 9:8 lead. The Genoa-based team scored two goals within 20 seconds and went ahead for the first time (10:9). Quinto extended its lead to three (12:9) in the 27th minute. Catania cut the deficit to one goal β 11:12 with 02:16 minutes left on the clock, but it couldnβt go further.
