The big match of the day lacked excitement, even though the beginning indicated that Ortigia and Brescia would be in a neck-and-neck race. Ortigia started very well, scoring the first two goals in the match. Brescia leveled the score at 2:2 with two goals in the last two minutes of the first quarter. The visitors continued an excellent series with four unanswered goals in the second quarter. But that wasn’t the end. A young Tommaso Gianazza scored after 34 seconds of play in the third period and Brescia gained a 7:2 lead. Ortigia couldn’t come back after a shocking 0:7 series. The hosts reduced the gap to three (5:8). Still, Brescia regained a 5-goal lead (10:5) and maintained the difference until the end. It was Brescia’s second win in Catania in a few days. On Saturday, Brescia beat Catania (11:8).
The conversion of the man-up shots was one of the factors that made the difference in the derby. Ortigia had a poor percentage of extra player shots (1/7), while Brescia netted seven goals from 12 opportunities with a man-up.
Pro Recco was too strong for De Akker Bologna. The European champion started slowly. At the first break, the score was 1:1. However, the hosts, led by Francesco Di Fulvio and Andrea Fondelli, built a four-goal lead (6:2) in the second quarter. By the end, they increased the margin to seven (15:8). Gergo Zalanki missed the match, while Ben Hallock returned to the team.
Savona’s defense wasn’t on a high level in today’s game against Bogliasco, but the attack was up to the task and the favorite recorded a 20:12 win. Half of the goals for the winning team were scored by Andrea Patchaliev (6) and Valerio Rizzo (4). Filip Radojevic netted six of Bogliasco’s twelve goals.
Trieste left no chance to Catania.
Telimar earned an away win in the capital of Italy by beating Roma. The first two quarters were balanced. Telimar took control after the middle break, but Roma kept up with the visitors until the very end. Terlimar’s Del Basso scored his third goal with 34 seconds remaining to set the final score – 10:8.
Posillipo defeated Anzio Waterpols by three goals (12:9). It was an even contest until the middle of the third quarter. Then, Posillipo scored three unanswered goals and jumped from 6:6 to 9:6, which was crucial for the Naples-based side’s victory.
