The second stage of the Greek League kicked off this weekend.
From now until the playoffs, the teams are split into two groups – G1 (1st – 8th place) and G2 (9th – 16th place). They transferred all the results achieved in the first phase. The second stage consists of eight rounds (the teams that were in the same group in the first phase won’t meet in the second stage).
The most exciting duels of the 15th round were clashes Panathinaikos – Apollon and Panionios – Peristeri. Apollon and Panionios collected points in these duels.

The encounter between Panathinaikos and Apollon was full of twists and turns. Neither of the teams could build a big advantage. The teams were tied at 10:10 before the final period. The rhythm of the game completely changed in the fourth period. After 20 goals in the first three periods, only one was scored in the fourth quarter. Five minutes before the end, Apollon’s Chondrokoukis scored for 11:10. It turned out that it was the winner since nobody found the net in the remaining time.
Panionios and Peristeri fought a hard battle in the pool in Nea Smyrni. The rivals were in a neck-and-neck race throughout the game. In the middle of the final quarter, the score was 7:7. Bouzalas gave Panionios an 8:7 lead with 03:18 minutes left on the clock. Peristeri didn’t have an answer after that. Gkiouvetsis set the final score one minute before the end – 9:7.
The league leader Olympiacos and 2nd-placed Vouliagmeni recorded convincing wins in their final rehearsals for the big Greek derby on the international stage. On Tuesday, Olympiacos and Vouliagmeni will face off in the Champions League.
Olympiacos stormed past PAOK (20:5). Vouliagmeni had some ups and downs in the game against Ethnikos, but it recorded a 7-goal victory (16:9).
Panionios and Apollon will appear on the European stage in a few days, as well as Olympiacos and Vouliagmeni. Panionios plays against Oradea in the LEN Euro Cup, while Apollon will face Galatasaray in the LEN Challenger Cup.

Ilysiakos, which won only one point in the first phase of the league, recorded its first win, defeating AEK 10:7. Ilysiakos moved from the bottom of the table. Nireas Chalandriou, which suffered a 10-goal defeat to leader Glyfada is in 16th place now.
