Visiting teams were very successful in today’s matches of the Italian Serie A1.
Savona climbed to 3rd place with a 10:6 win in Salerno. Ortigia beat Catania in the Sicilian derby (17:11). But it wasn’t an easy win. Two minutes before the end of the third quarter, Catania led 10:8. Ortigia secured a convincing win with a 9:1 run in the last 10 minutes.

Ortigia was the favorite in the Sicilian derby. However, the Syracuse-based team secured the win only at the finish of the 28-goal game. Catania led 7:6 at halftime and doubled its advantage after just 40 seconds of play in the third period (8:6). Ortigia responded with two quick goals and leveled at 8:8. But, then came two back-to-back goals by Catania, and the hosts regained a 2-goal advantage (10:8). Ortigia produced a 4:0 run in the last 110 seconds of the third period and gained an 11:10 advantage before the final quarter. Francesco Condemi doubled the visitors’ advantage in the 27th minute (12:10). Shortly after, Catania’s La Rosa converted a man-up for 11:12. But, Ortigia scored four unanswered goals in the last five minutes for a comfortable 17:11 victory.
Savona made no mistake in Salerno. The favorite dictated the pace from the beginning. By the middle of the second quarter, Savona built a 5:1 advantage. Early in the third, the visitors stretched the margin to five (7:2) and the contest was over.
The surprise of the day is Posillipo’s win over Quinto in Genoa. The Naples-based side was better in a hard defensive battle. Each side scored two goals in the first quarter. Posillipo managed to control the hosts’ attack, while it netted three goals and entered the second half leading 5:3. Midway through the third period, Savona’s veteran Guillermo Molina scored from a 6 on 5 and cut the deficit (4:5). But, Posillipo forced a penalty shot in its next possession. Benjamin Stevenson sent the ball into the net and Posillipo regained a 2-goal lead. It turned out that it was the last goal in the match. Posillipo earned three points and climbed from 12th to 10th place.
Trieste didn’t play the best it could, but it defeated Anzio (16:11). Trieste built a 5-goal lead,step-by-step, and entered the final quarter leading 12:7. Each side scored four goals in the final eight minutes.
De Akker defeated Bogliasco after a big battle. The Bologna-based team entered the final period with a 12:10 advantage. Bogliasco cut the deficit to one goal twice in the fourth period, but de Akker regained a two-goal lead on both occasions. Kristijan Milakovic converted a penalty shot with 61 seconds remaining on the clock to make it 14:12 and secure a win for De Akker. At the finish, Filip Radojevic set the final score with his fourth goal.
In the matches played on Wednesday, the Champions League clubs collected points. Brescia beat Telimar (11:6), while Pro Recco sank Roma (15:2).
After a goalless first quarter, Brescia built a 4:2 lead in the second period. Telimar couldn’t catch up with Brescia in the second half. The Sicilians halved the distance at the beginning of the second half (3:4). Still, they couldn’t go further. Brescia produced a 6:0 run for a huge 10:3 lead.
