Apollon Smyrnis and Peristeri won important points in their efforts to reach spots among the top four teams in the regular season of the Greek Championships.
Both teams recorded wins in very exciting games. Apollon beat Panathinaikos in a game with many twists and turns (11:9). Peristeri edged out Panionios – 9:8.
Peristeri’s win was excellent news for 3rd-placed Apollon, which now has five points more than 4th-placed Panionios.

Apollon Smyrnis, the LEN Challenger Cup semifinalist, welcomed Panathinaikos. The hosts started very well and took a 4:1 lead in the first quarter. However, Panathinaikos turned the match around in the next eight minutes. The visitors netted five unanswered goals in the second quarter and went in front (6:4). Still, Apollon was able to come back. The hosts leveled in the 21st minute after Goniotakis converted a penalty for 6:6. Apollon had a 7:6 lead. Still, Panathinaikos caught up with the home team before the last break (7:7). Apollon, led by Nikola Bogdanovic in the attack and with a goalkeeper Stefanos Galanopoulos, who was the pillar of defense, was a better rival in the final quarter. Two minutes before the end, Goniotakis made it 11:8 and Apollon secured the win. Panathinaikos scored a consolation goal at the finish.
Peristeri beat LEN Euro Cup semifinalist Panionios. Peristeri led throughout the game and entered the final quarter with a 9:5 advantage. Panionios tried to come back after the last break and almost did that. The visitors cut the deficit with 03;38 minutes left on the clock (8:9). There was enough time for Panionos to come back and for Peristeri to secure a more convincing win. Still, nobody found the net and Peristeri earned the points with a narrow win. After this game, the gap between Panionios and Peristeri was narrowed to six points.
The Champions League clubs Olympiacos and Vouliagmeni trashed their rivals.
Olympiacos ran over PAOK – 21:8 with five goals from Ioannis Fountoulis.
Vouliagmeni beat Ethnikos 13:4. Papasifakis scored four goals for the winning team as all players of Ethnikos together.
Olympiacos and Vouliagmeni could record more convincing wins, but, in the final eight minutes, they were saving energy for more significant challenges.
